To answer your question Dave, Yes, I used particle board. 5/8" to be exact. since I was going in a straight line, it didn't matter much, and was a lot cheaper than MDF. The router still burns/melts the bonding agent and seals the groove pretty good.
Now for the good stuff! I made some progress on the strip today. I have even made test runs on both lanes.
I can only say, that having that much fun with only the first section done, tells me I'm in for a good time at 48' ! Here's what I have done so far. The drivers stations are wired, and waiting on controller holders. I used a trick I saw on You tube, where a guy used romex wire to make the loops that hook up the controllers. its a neat idea, and is cheap also. two holes for each clip, and you run the wire back through and bend it over.

I also got the side rails up, and routed a center divider to keep the launching cars apart.

I am using a PM 15 amp power supply, and PM controllers for now.

Still a good ways to go, but its coming together nicely enough that I am happy with it.

I have been working on the first section quite a bit. I am waiting on my steel tubing, so I got into the details a little. :oops: My daughter has a machine that cuts vinyl, so I put her to work on these track signs. I think they came out rather good! The lane divider was kinda boring, so it woke it up a little.

I have never seen a slot drag track in action. What stops the cars at the end.?

That's really neat Bob. I was going to build one about 3 years ago. But never did. I did build a lot of 1/24 Drag cars. And I did end up selling all on Ebay. I wish I could post pictures on here. I could show them all to you. Keep us updated Bob.. Bob.....................
