HSRR McLaren

Does anyone know when these cars came out?
The website has a copyright date of 2001-2010 and was updated 2-17-12.

I like to see the modifications people are doing to the existing chassis instead of chucking it in favor of an HRS. I modified my Monogram cars as per Electric Dreams Tech News articles. A super racer not, but performance was much improved over box stock.

BTW Paul Gage make tires for the HSRR cars. Some of the reviews I read said the stock tires worked well.

About the 1/32 McLaren M8Ds in general. I have had 3 of the slot,it versions for quite a while now but failed to grab one of the original #5 Denny Hulme cars when it first came out. After viewing the new documentary "McLaren" recently I decided to look for the slot.it #5 car and found one on ebay for $59. I have seen them much higher so I decided to grab this one. I immediately noticed several modifications from the original chassis indicating that this car is a recent release. I changed only the rear tires to Paul Gage urethanes and was delighted to find this newest version of the chassis handles very well. Some criticise the slot.it version for not being to scale or being otherwise inaccurate but I like them very much as the run so well without too much fuss.

Thanks for the tips! I've looked into doing it that way as well, but want to use the stock wheels, and can't see a way to get them off the axle. The Revoslot uprights won't work because the is no room back there to secure them. Did you get the wheels off somehow so you could fit the axle through the tube?

Thanks Alwyn, but you know me...I'm stubborn, and I want to use those stock wheels! So far, my compromise involves massive amounts of glue, and crossed fingers! The HSRR motor pod is VERY compact...not much room for anything in there...I am well on my way to making a mess of it! :dance:

The #5 HSRR McLaren was my first Can-Am car and I didn't expect a lot except for it to be a great looking replica. But, with monster PGTs it was not only fun to drive, it was faster than Slot.it cars without PGTs and some Carrera Can-Am cars with PGTs.

I've learned there is no overall answer to how 'good' a car is or isn't. The type of track a car runs on matters a lot, as well as driver style. As a solo racer who simulates races based on recorded lap times, it makes no sense for me to tune cars and get into an arms race between them - I prefer smooth running evenly matched RTR cars for a competitive field. Even if one car were running laps 0.5 secs a lap faster than the field, a de-slot with time penalty would likely have it fall back to the rear. Consistent runners are ideal, and the HSRR McLaren fits this very well.
