Paypal for friends %

Hi guys just have a quick question here . I have no problem paying pp friends and family as in Canada it dosent cost me anyrhing.
But if i send it international i get chged almost 11% on top of the money sent as friends and family.
I am wondering what the % to the seller is if paid as a sale, since it may be cheaper for me to cover the sellers costs than as a friend.

I think that charge is a currency conversion and you pay it in any transaction. I think!

Here in Australia they now charge $5.99 per transaction for international f&f
Whether that is cheaper than paying the fees will depend on the amount
I sent some money to cover postage of a car from Europe 10 euro = $16.50 of my $
Add the $5.99 and it would cost $22.49. Instead I sent 11 euro ($18) as a payment for goods and my friend received 10.08 euro

While it seems like he was charge 11% i believe he was charged 3% plus a fixed fee of 0.60 euro or so
if I had sent him 22 euro he would have received 20.74

Hi Matt, that is actually on top of the 30% difference in the dollar and currency conversion is also added at a cost of 3%. So a $10 US would cost me $13 Canadian plus 6.00 US in fees and another 3% for currency change. So it works out to about
$22 Cdn overall in this case, which is a big chunk compared to the actual sales cost i believe Of US $10 .

I found the same thing recently...I paid 54USD for two entries in the SCCA proxy....the four dollars were fees.

The sellers shouldn't ask us to pay this way. It is against PayPal rules, not sure of consequences. Set the asking price with the fee in mind.

The last time that I sent money via PayPal and used Family&Friends I paid an extra 3.7%. If you buy from a commercial seller usually the asking price would include the PayPal fee, so either way you are going to pay a fee.

it is a sellers/buyers choice, like Rich said, especially on ebay, there are so many fees to be paid to sell anything there. Sellers are pressed to inflate prices just to make a few bucks. When I sell here, I always put this in my description, so the buyer has the option to buy or not. Paypal gets their money either way, so I don't think they care.

Don't understand the issues.

There are no fees to either party within the U.S. to send money to family and friends when you use only your PayPal balance or bank account, or a combination of your PayPal balance and bank account. There is a fee to send money as a personal payment using a debit card or credit card.

I always offer to pay as a friend to anybody I know or trust. Not ebay sales, but you guys and other internet guys I know. Anything out of country, you pay the exchange charges any way you describe and send payment. Some of my Japanese customers send me US dollars they get from their banks. They have some kind of rules about PP over there and they can't send me gift money thru pp.

I have a box of Carrera track going to OZ in a couple weeks and the buyer thinks it is probably easiest and cheapest just to do a PP transfer. Anybody know if he could get dollars at his bank and send them or if they can do Postal Money orders for US dollars. He is a friend and I hate for him to pay more than he has to.

As an Ebay seller, the cost is usually around 15% for selling stuff. You pay Ebay and you pay PP. When Ebay went to PP only(preferred) as a payment method, I quit selling, after over 1000 sales and a few dollars. I ended up biting the bullet and using them again after 5-6 years. It is still the quickest way to sell and to get exposure to maximum number of bidders and end up with what is a fair/market price.

So if I get some tyres from Bob (international sale) and I decided to pay him Family and Friends because I know him - I am circumventing their fees and thus stealing. I am not sure why you think that. I already pay a fee to do this and always have - the point being I pay the fee rather than Bob having it deducted from the money he receives. If I bought from a mate in Australia it is fee free.

What we are talking about is they have recently changed the way they charge their fees for doing this. It used to be a percentage fee based on the amount sent - now it seems to be a fixed fee regardless of how much is sent. That could be in my favour or it may not be depending on how much is sent. It would seem though they worked out the transactions are smaller in nature and thus a fixed fee probably means they get a bigger percentage on most transactions than they used to. They wouldn't have done it if it meant they were losing money. So whereas in the past sending someone $20 for some tyres might have cost me $2 in fees - it now costs me $6 - I am not stealing nor am I circumventing their fees and I think your jumping on a high horse and implying that I am is a little bit offensive.

Yes it is a great service they provide pretty sure they don't miss us with fees.

If Bob has a business I would hope he factors in the fees! I checked and the fee is 2.9% plus .30 per sale in the US. So a $50 sale would cost the seller $1.75. Seems perfectly reasonable to me for the convenience they provide. Mailing checks and the problems associated with that isn't worth the hassle. If you are avoiding fees for a service it is stealing, sorry. Stores pay fees every time you use a card, whether for a $1 or $10000! I'm sure they would love to not pay it.
