Happy Birthday to me

Wife's last day of work was last Friday. 44 years at the same job. Retired in the number 2 spot in her department. Now I may have to find her something to do before her honey do list gets any longer.

My wife is also retired and attends swim class (aqua aerobics) with a group 3 mornings a week, and they all go out to lunch together at least once a week. The class is at our local recreation center and is her primary social activity. I was informed I'm not welcome to join her group because it would inhibit her ability to talk about me. But, she is encouraging me to consider an exercise class by claiming the instructor is a "hottie".

I haven't decided what activities I'll be taking on, but am considering a few.

I swim in the mornings 3-4 days a week. Since she doesn't swim she said she may walk the indoor track. Got to get her a hobby.

Having multiple hobbies and associated projects will keep me as engaged in retirement as I care to be. Slot cars are at the top of the list, followed by yard projects out back (deck, patio, fire pit, etc.), and grilling & BBQ. Plus, we'll do a coast-to-coast road trip at some point. I'll be taking graph paper, notebooks, and a laptop computer along to keep designing stuff, writing up thoughts about projects, and doing calculations as we go.

I've always told my students that play is an important part of a healthy life - whatever it is that captures your attention. I don't consider my (expensive) slot cars toys, but I love playing with them.
