SCCA Proxy - Build Thread

Randy i still think spec or non spec would allow everyone to race. Dont give it up just yet, this is about inclusion so lets see what Allan has to say first.

I think (or at least I hope) that most of you know that Allan is all about inclusion is Proxy car races.

Randy sent me a PM last night explaining a little more of the problem he faces and I replied to him this morning with a possible solution. I hope we can make this work for him because that was one very nice car that he posted on a couple of days ago.

By the way, I hated to have to put up the post that I did last night about the Scaley black striipe motor, but the downside of not doing that was 30+ unhappy racers, so I needed to take the position that I did. I hope you all understand that.

And I really hope we can get his orange Cooper back in the field.

Heard from Randy and he has solved his fitment issues. Way to go Randy, looking forward to this fun proxy , and so glad your in it.

I drove Viv's car today....not as smooth as mine but I think it will settle down once it has run some laps.

Similar total weight too.

This car was built in the hopes it could race in a proxy one day. That time has arrived. I applied the HRW and SCCA decals that were supplied for this event and changed out the motor to meet the motor specs of this proxy. I also had to remove the rear bearings and install the oilites to meet the spec.









Seems to run good, but do not have many expectations, One day I will crack into the midpack, Maybe this is the car that will do it.

Randy, nice job on the chassis re-work on your Cooper 61 Monza to get that Hawk motor in there!

Hi all.

Finally got my rear tyres down to their finished size. Originally made them the size of my T53 Cooper Climax rears but found this a little big for this small sports car. The car is still a little nose down but at least this will allow for some tyre wear. Have yet to refit body so watch this space.

Gave the car its first run on my small Scaly track but minus body. A couple of hiccups (design flaws) caused by movement of pod (pinion and spur gear allen screw fouled on brass chassis) but easily fixed with a little Dremel and plier work. Alternatively I could have just tightened pod but that would be defeating the purpose of the pod.

Also started to paint the body although I had previously under-coated. I have a bit of a dilemma with the final colour though. I had previously used Tamiya Racing Green TS-43 on my T53 and T60 Cooper Climaxes but did not like so I overpainted with British Green TS-9. Latter appears to have a little blue in it and looks more like my recollection of these cars. Does anybody have a suggestion.

My thought is to go with the Racing Green TS-43 as this appears close to Bruce McLaren's Mini Cooper and should go well with the wide yellow stripe sported on the No.4 Jim Clark car which I am trying to emulate.

Finally just about have the windscreen ready to install (when painting finished) and got my wobbly wheel inserts out of original wheels as I am not sure my Lotus inserts with spinners will work (or I will just run out of time).
