The Dunlop disc wheels had a separate splined hub bolted on since there was no way to make
the splines part of the wheel. Generally, if the splines were stripping they were worn out. I
don't have the problem with my BN-1 since the worn hubs and wheel centers were replaced.
A fellow member of the AHCA has a BN7 with a nailhead Buick in it, and doesn't have problems
stripping rear splines. Centerlock wheels (knock-offs) were, and still are, used to save time
during pit stops. Mostly they use pin drive wheels rather than splines now, which is a stronger
arrangement.
