Swapping a MT SL-1 into a Scaley Mini.

Postby noddaz » Wed Oct 17, 2018 7:28 pm

Ok, I am trying to swap a MT SL-1 into a Scaley Mini. Unfortunately, the original motor and the MT SL-1 have different length shafts. And the MT SL-1 shaft is too short. (Go ahead, laugh.) I have tried to solder a brass tube to the armature shaft, but that is a no go. (Why? I don't know). I assume that I did not get the armature shaft hot enough to solder to. Of course, I did not want to ruin the motor... Any hints?

That could be a plan. This car is needs to have a motor spec of 15k or less. What is the RPM rating on the BWA motor?

I might have one around here. If so, send it out.

If Harry comes up dry, I've got some new 13k MRRC motors with 1/2" long shafts available.

The classic Mini Coopers (and MGB) were originally released with 15k ff motors so if it needs toning down a 13k motor might be the only way, although I have watched a race where a guy took out the top podium position in a TransAm race with a Scalextric Cortina with a 13k ff motor.

The BWA motors are rated at 14.5k rpm.

If you dont have any luck getting one I have a few for sale, cheapish....shipping will be more than the motor though.
