Czar,
I have the Carrera Hot Rods. I took one apart and spent a week trying to put the guide back in.
I have treated them like shelf queens. They are not the kind of car I want to put into the wall.
I don't want the Pioneer cars to tear up. I just want a car to race and be competitive with on my own little track.

As always, I defer to Harry's information since I respect his overall knowledge of the hobby and range of offerings. Who likes what and why is a fringe topic, we all share a love of slot cars and enjoying the hobby as we choose. The cars I have always bought have been replicas whose heritage can be traced. But then, while my gaze was fixed on those perhaps there were others that just never caught my eye.

Anywho, lets hope there are Legend cars available by Christmas season so we can enjoy something new. As 1/32 scale versions of 5/8th scale race cars, I want to see what the look like on a scale track and how the handle with short wheelbases.

Just a few replies to some of the posts above…

Greg: The AAR Cuda is just sitting in CAD waiting. If I do press ‘GO’, it will probably be the last of the T/A era models for the reasons I mentioned previously.

Frank: Look out for a PM from me regarding The Legends.

Joe: You’re right. Maybe there is just not any real need for a Pioneer version of the Cuda or the Javelin. I’d hate to have to just park the CAD but that’s the way it goes sometimes.

…and the topic then diversified onto the subject of fantasy/real team liveries on the new Legends Cars…..

Harry gave a very good analysis of the how the market sits right now. Specifically, on the Legends, I’m not aware of any major teams that run these cars around the world. Apart from some drivers that went on to drive in the full NASCAR series, most of races are organized on a local level with privateer entrants.

There are 1000’s of these cars out there right now racing. More Legends cars still exist than any other race car. As far as I can tell, there are no ‘really famous’ cars. I have taken the time to wander up and down a number of pit lanes and chat to drivers and small 2-car teams. The response was 100% positive to making replica models of these cars. There will be no license issues with making the #32 Ford Coupe with ‘DYNOFAST’ logos, for example. Steve and Ed will be delighted with a little publicity. No corporate hassles there.

If it’s an attractive livery, we’ll take a look at it. Also, we’ll do some ‘fantasy’ liveries if that seems to be appropriate and worthwhile. Most of these cars are bright and eye-catching with big stylized numbers on the side.

Ready-2-paint kits will be readily available and expect many guys will enjoy building them up just as they want them.

When will they be ready? The shortest answer is soon. Tooling is completed. All that is in the way, production wise, are the 50th anniversary special editions of Bullitt (going through now) and the Christmas Edition Santa cars. We’ll then start the Legends in early December but that does mean they will not make it out for Christmas. Logistically, that will not work. My best guess will be January.

Jules
PS. I’m fairly sure that the first Legend car you will see will be this one:-

Brian, are you referring to that metallic orange that was painted onto some early pre-production Route 66 Mustangs?

Harry - thanks for the offer, PM will be on the way soon. I'll give the little bugger a good try out on the oval and post results. Are there silicone tires that fit the rear wheels? You'll get it back in excellent condition too.

Jules - good to know they are on the way, even if not for Christmas. And what you're doing is what I was hoping, no added expense involved in recognizing a local hero or few. Years ago when Matchbox made some replicas of top dirt modified cars in the northeast they were on sale at every track on the circuit, as were 1/25 scale models made by Nutmeg Collectibles for $60. I hope the team and home track have these for sale too.

Frank - sorry if I got too serious about replicas and so on. I'm a solo racer these days (grandsons left for college) so running simulated races with replica cars is how I stay engaged with the hobby. I like to imagine that I'm channeling the ability of the driver of record as I record the lap times, then run the data through a program I wrote and watch as it displays what would be going on if all the cars were running together. I ran a 12 car Can-Am trial race a few weeks ago and Mark Donohue in the #6 Porsche 917/30 made a last lap pass to win over Hurley Haywood's #59 Porsche 917/10. If anyone heard me yelling as I was up in the barn by myself they would think I was a pure nutcase. Maybe so, but this is why I still buy cars and am thinking about racing all the time.

Cheers to all.

I for one love, love, love the military livery on the Legends car. Even though I can strip paint, I enjoy the blank canvas of the white kits.

Thanks for all your info sharing and patience with us. I am happy to see whatever you make whenever you release it. Your company - your rules. I can wait.

I think I remember what happened now Brian.

The prototype was a more of a 'burnt' orange, and the final paint mix had it more more of a candy red. Compare the pictures. The colors are so similar we may have to add some racing stripes to make it significantly different on another release of the Route 66 Fastback.

How do you feel about stripes?
