Thanks you, Mark! I tested 3 of your M/T Sl-2 slimcan motors last night and got 18,000, 18,100 and 18,300 rpm from them on my hand-held tach. I would be happy to race any of the three in this proxy.

Sloting plus has offset bushings 0.3 and 0.6 and I have seen somewhere 1mm too. That should help with clearance...

Regarding Audi1’s post above, I’m also running the NSR F1 “rain tire” tread rubber tires (20 x 13) and have glued and trued them about as far as I dare go, for clearance purposes. There are still grooves apparent on the tire surface and I’d like to shave it further to get a better contact patch, but I’m afraid that the car will then be out of spec and disqualified.

The car is a Scalextric Ferrari F2004, labeled C2751 by Scalextric. So, it’s not just the newer F1s that may have this clearance issue.

Just an FYI,.......The NSR "rain tires" that some have referred to, are in fact, not rain tires at all. From 1999 through 2008, all F1 cars ran on "grooved" dry weather tires. "Slick" tires were reintroduced for the 2009 season, and have remained that way since.

NSR took this mould from the Ninco F1 cars that were produced from 1999 through 2005, and at this time the "grooved" tires were totally accurate. They (NSR) have not produced a modern (2009+ ) "slick" F1 tire

Then the simple answer would be to choose another tire or not try to shave the grooved tire to slick status. My 2004 Ferrari would be period correct with grooves.

Look at the "chew" on the front and rear tires of that Ferrari - time for a tire change!

Darius has already mentioned that Slotting Plus makes acentric bushings in both an 0.3mm and 0.6mm offset and these could help quite a bit. But, in my experience, accentrics are not the easiest bushings to align in such a way that each has the same offset when installed.

I, too, toyed with the idea of leaving some of the "groove" on the tires and I have no data that either demonstrates or suggests that a grooved tire is slower or faster than a slick tire on these light F1 cars, so that may well be worth taking a closer look at, since you really need to go down to about 19.65mm on these NSR tires to get rid of the grooves.
