Anglewinder Tuning help

Postby my27kgame » Thu Dec 20, 2018 9:58 pm

Hey Everyone,

if I'm out of line here or the topic has already been covered please direct me there.

I'm looking for help tuning my anglewinder cars. I don't have a track, so I'm looking for some tips and tricks to tune a car before I ever take it to a track. I know about chassis tuning and setup, I'm really looking for tips on weight placement and other things specific to angle winder cars. for me they always seem to corner better in one direction than the other, and i believe this is due to the motor configuration. Please help!

The easiest thing you can do that will bring good results is to go to the Slot Car Garage section on this site and look at the tuning/reviews that Harry has already posted. The chances are excellent that he has already worked on the exact car you have, or at least one of its brothers or sisters. Also, NSR has a guide (free) on their site about tuning slot cars for racing. Beyond that, post specific questions, the members here are quite knowledgeable and generous. Hope that gives you a starting point and welcome to HRW.

You will get better responses if you say which car you are talking about. The hitch with any RTR 1/32nd car is that two examples of the same car might have to be tuned a little differently, so any advise that you might get would probably just be a starting point. I am in the same boat that you are in that I do not have a 1/32nd track.

Nothing substitutes for having a track.
Tuning generally involves ride height, tire material, and gear ratio. Anglewinders aren't that much different than other RTR cars. Set the guide depth and front axle height, ensure the gears are meshing correctly, and have a good true set of rear wheels and tires. The Sideways Group 5 cars are pretty good on our track with minimal tuning (loosen the pod for float, slip on tires) to race....but even those cars vary by model.

Guide depth and front axle height depend on whether you are running plastic track (elevated rails) va a wood track (flush or slightly sunken tape/braid. Gearing depends on track configuration unless the class rules require stock gears.

I don't have any Thunderslot or NSR cars....but I would start with these things anyway. Sorry to be so general, but more details will get a much better response.

Hey, all the aforementioned the guys say is true.
I have been told and found here on my 32 and 24 anglewinders to shim/space the anglewinder spur right out to the pinion, as close as you can mesh it without binding and interference.
The cars performance will go from night to day, it'll be some quieter-and the thing will haul the mail.
Tell us what it is...hope it flies!
