My 1st Scaley GT car with a serious front axle problem

Postby Modlerbob » Sat Dec 22, 2018 3:37 pm

One of the 1st Scaley slot cars I bought was the Ferrari F430 GTR race car along with the Aston Martin DBR9. It has survived for 8 years but during that time it has gotten pretty beat up. So, last week I saw one on Ebay for $46 + free shipping and I now own another new old stock F430. It was new in the crystal case and had never been run, so, much to my surprise, when I put it on my track the front end bounced like a rabbit. I removed the front tires and sanded the contact surface with the tires then reinstalled the tires and put everything on my tire razor to true the tires. After reassembling everything it was smoother but still had a hop. Further investigation has revealed that the front axle is slightly bent so I will be borrowing a front axle from another car and I hope it fixes the problem. I guess that one in more than 100 isn't too bad, especially for a car that was made almost 10 years ago.

Swapping the front axle assembly with one of my older F430s fixed the problem.

If the axle was bent how did you get the wheels to touch the sanding pads evenly on the Tire Razor? Sorry Bob, I was thinking you sanded the front wheels and tires too. My mistake.
