Printed racer challenge!

:lol: I have no idea yet! I am really winging it on this one. just thought it would be a fun and weird thing to do while the weather is cold. Hopefully other folks will chime in with ideas on wheels tires etc. I have some obscure tire molds that may present some period tires for us. The wheels need to be fairly large and skinny to be right. I am posting the site i got the kit file from for anyone who wants to try to get the files right.

It costs $2.96 for the files, then they need converted to STL fro OBJ. or so i am told!

This is a basic kit for a Porsche 356. Body, chassis, trim pieces. Snap in motor mount and bushings.

You should be able to simply download and print it all.

Print your choice of wheels, but they have to fit under the body (no flares etc).
Print your guide flag.

MT-1 / Artin / NC-1 or equivalent FC-130 slower motor.

Choice of tires.

I'm on the fence about committing to this ( still getting a grip on the printer ) BUT I would be more into the 356 if I were to attempt an entry :twocents-mytwocents:

Well.....
Not trying to say Bob's car isn't fun....but I am cheap. If it's a hassle to buy, convert, scale, print...then it becomes a hassle.

The point of the 356 is that it's essentially complete, except for wheels and guide flag....both of which are also available for download free.

I am also willing to look at the files for Bob's car and see what can be done to make it easy......

from a personal stand point the 356 just interests me more to start with :whistle:

After printing out Bob's idea, it needs to have the chassis modified for one of the SCC motors that I get, whether it be a Tuna or H&R rabbit. I would also modify it to get one of the press in rear bushings. Now that 356 really looks interesting.

yes the 356 looks very interesting SO regardless of being a possibility for a proxy :drool: download is complete and the printer is whirring away on a body as I type this :whistle:

This car already has press in bushings, and accepts a slimcan motor nicely. i am gathering the converted files, and resizing the parts to be easier for anyone else. pretty solid little car when built!

Looks great Bob! Keep us updated. Try printing out this driver figure I just uploaded it to Thingiverse. It might look a little more period correct in that car! :lol:

I'm interested in the Porsche as well. What are you all using for running gear? I have never scratch build anything and would need to buy everything to make one of these run. I get the feeling that most of the scratch builders on here have been doing it for long enough that they have piles of parts sitting around to throw these together and never really talk about the parts details. If someone can give me some direction either Ron here or via PM, it would be much appreciated.
