3Wide in 3D! CG Slotcars Shadow DN4

Thought it deserved to go in here. This is my third car from CG and each one is a gem to me.







This is just a cool and different series to say the least. They run great with the smooth 64 pitch gears and good quality running gear.





I think it's a great design and works well for this car.

I also think this work is the best example of the future. Before we know it, we will not have to beg/complain/wish for certain models to be made in 1/32.
The mass market Euro manufactures will never understand our USA/North American interests fully. We are blessed to have some people here in the USA that influence the releases we see, but too little and too far between.

We will just print/create them ourselves. From the chassis to the bodys. We have all the gear/parts we need to finish them. As I look at some of the "new" (ahem") releases from many brands, it is rather boring.

Same old same old. Nothing groundbreaking. Unless you want yet another Lambo or Porsche 9whatever.

I'm not in this 3D fray just yet, but from what I have seen from all of you creative masters? We have a bright future.

Absolutely, 100%. I want all three of these.

I have to say, I originally was kinda put off by the prices....and just figured I'd wait.
But then I started doing a few. The CAD time to make a good body that prints consistently smooth as well as the chassis work to make everything line up is not inconsequential. I have done a couple small projects, and I understand that you can save elements and reuse them....but each model still has it's own issues.

Things I am willing to put up with for a one-off model that I personally want (like my Alfa Romeo T33-2) are not acceptable in a commercial offering.
These cars have shown themselves to be first rate, and excellent examples of cars no one else offers. A 2J with rotating fans? Come on, that's worth the price of admission right there! :music-rockout:

Yes sir. I hear the same from folks who complained about resin model prices....until they tried it.

And we see many paying Epay collector prices for models we think are not worth the retail at the time.

For a handcrafted model like this? I have no problems with the entry fee. I see people paying $$$ for claimed "performance" models that have zero identity.

No, I might race it in a club/series. But I will race all three and enjoy the sight. :)

When you consider the time Matt spends designing these cars, sourcing/producing parts, hand assembling, painting and detailing each car, he's probably lucky if he breaks even in terms of cost. I'm very fortunate to know Matt personally and I can tell you with absolute certainty that profit and loss is not why Matt designs and builds these amazing cars. For Matt, it's about his passion for this hobby and these very special race cars that mainstream slot car manufacturers rarely (if ever) build. Thank you Matt for doing what you do - your passion is contagious. I look forward to more amazing cars in the future!

I put my order in for a CG Slotcars Shadow DN4 as soon as I head SCC would be getting them in. No Can-Am series could be complete without this car. I had to do a little modification to the rear wheel wells to get XPG's on it, but it was worth it. It would benefit from some well positioned lead weight, but as is it qualifies right in the middle of my 21 car field putting it ahead of a few Slot.It cars.

I got some decals off ebay to renumber it as the iconic 101 driven by Jackie Oliver. By the time the Shadow DN4 won the Can-Am championship the series was starting to decline and there wasn't the level of competition as before from Porsche-Audi 917's and Bruce McLaren's monsters. But, the Shadow was very innovative and set speed records at the same tracks showing it was worthy of being a champion.

I have to say that the 3d printed body of that shadow looks pretty good: did you paint it yourself?
I have some some 3d models from TA71 and although they were quite good in terms of details (built by extremely talented people) the sharpness of the details was never on par with injected mold. But maybe things have changed in these couple of year.

I think the slotcar makers do not even know the needs of their Euro markets, let alone the US and some niche models from the past gone.

Mine came fully detailed as shown in Harry's photos. At this time 3D cars are not as crisp as injection molded cars, but when you consider 'homemade' versus the high cost of developing everything needed for an injection molded car it makes sense. If Slot.It or Fly had made this car it might have been even more impressive, but they didn't so CG Slotcars did.

Yes, mine arrived finished as you see it.

So many cars we all want to see. New or old. From Birdcages, Scarabs, to modern TA Challengers.

As we are in resin today, these cars will happen. Too many printers are finding their way into motivated hands. This series of CAN-AM from CG just shows what is possible when someone truly has that passion. :auto-checkeredflag:

I have a Ti22 ran well out of the Box .My car was one of the CG Slots in the CanAm Proxy. Same car next year replacing the motor with more RPM s. Overall Great Car Thanks Matt

I hope they can see fit to upsize stuff to 1/24. Not sure how much trouble that is, but I would love to have a hard body 1/24 shadow. There were some 1/24 resin bodies done in Germany a few years ago, but they were very limited. Printing makes so much stuff available that could only be wished for a few years ago.
