Finally picking up on this again. So far the Scaleauto Corvette is the leading contender and showing some (currently still unfulfilled!) promise. The NSR Mercedes is the big disappointment while the Sideways Huracan is OK-ish. I still have to figure out if this means that I am in a better or worse place now than when I started!!!
So next steps: tyres, tyres, tyres. It SEEMS like the set of urethanes on the Corvette is rather good while stock tyres (Supergrips?) which I glued and trued on the stock air wheels on the Mercedes are poor. But of course without having swapped stuff around I do not really know if the Mercedes's tyres are poor or if the whole package just sucks! I will be preparing some more NSR tyres (both Supergrips and Ultragrips) and then mixing and matching them on the different cars to see how things go: I would hate to eliminate one of the cars as possible entry if the poor performance was just due to a bad set of tyres!
One further complicating factor is that Luf will be tearing down his Targa on Sept 21 in preparation of his move to the island. This has always been my test track so all of a sudden I will be left with no comparative data: a terrible place for an engineer to be! I will have to ask Luf if I can come spend an afternoon of testing and tuning next week some time before the guillotine falls....
