So what is the general consensus about the Dslot cars?

Postby Modlerbob » Sat Mar 30, 2013 12:48 am

I got the Mazda 787b right after they came out but as 1/43 is not my primary scale I haven't purchased any more until now. I just bought the McLaren F1GTR and it runs much the same as the Mazda. On my plastic Scaley sport track with mag in place they hustle around the track pretty good at 15v. On wood they are pretty bouncy but I have ordered a set of Paul Gage urethanes for them and hope they will loose their tendency to hop. To me they look a lot better than most of the others but still behave too much like HO cars for my taste.

The bodies of the DSlot cars really look awesome and the details are great. The wheels look great on all cars, too.
The running gear is very smooth and the motor is fine for me, as i´m running on a wood track. With K&D tires (or CarGo tires now) and changed chassis, these are really good running cars.
I don´t like the stock chassis and the stock tires, so i´m just changing them. Also the chassis mounting in the body is not what i would have done. My chassis feature simple four screws that allow a little body float and still fix the body to the chassis.
Way to much play in all bearings in the stock chassis. Too stiff guide wires. Guide could be mounted more in front of the front axle.

Still like the cars :D

Since I sell DSlot43, I'll stay out of the comments, but I do like Peter's chassis :)

I was going to praise the DSlot43 but I think I'd just be wasting me time. I feel I've done that every time I've tried to say anything good about them since they were first released. They suck so bad I've got somewhere around 40 of them....It's like they were made to run magnet on Ninco track! :banana-rock:

My two cents: I have the two 917's, 1 956 & Lambo. (The Lambo is my least favorite)
They run quite well on my SCX Compact track.
I agree that the guide is too stiff & the chassis is over engineered (way over engineered!)
On the plus side, they run very smooth & look stunning.
On my particular twisty track, the SCX cars are a match for them. I think if I had some longer open areas, they probably be superior because they seem to have good power that is not getting fully realized on my set up. The stiff guide does not like some of the tighter turns... they bounce out.
I'd like to buy more, but the cost is prohibited for me right now. I'm considering just buying bodies.
I wish they'd simplify the chassis and bring the cost down a little.

I have all the N. American releases and I really like them, with, just a little tweeking they run VERY good. Still there is room for improvement and I agree with Peter on almost all points! I don't think the guide is to stiff, but it is on the largish side for such a small car! The body mounting system does seem to cause as many problems as it solves, the chassis & motor pod are overly complicated. Rear tires are too hard

One can't complain though, the quality is generally pretty good. :banana-rock:

My new F1GTR blew it's motor after only a few laps. I think it was a bad solder joint on the comm. It took a while but I finally found a store that sells replacement motors, so I ordered two of the higher powered motors so my cars would match. My Mazda 787b runs pretty well after mounting a set of Paul Gage urethanes. I also think it runs better on wood than I had expected. There is some wheel hop on initial starting but it smooths out once it is running. This car corners much better with the PG tires and the investment was worth it.

Except for some ride height issues and too much slop in the rear axle bushings, I love these cars for no-mag racing on wood. They drive like small 1:32 cars. And if the tires aren't up to snuff, Paul Gage has you covered.

I bought 2 at the begining. The 917 and 962. Sweet bodies. They ran pretty well on my small Slop inspired routed track.
I ended up giving them away as prizes for the ISP43 proxy. I don't miss them!
Cheers Ted
