Tractor pulling season is coming!!

Postby nhdungeonracer » Mon May 06, 2013 7:16 am

With spring comes tractor pulling season, and that usually means getting them ready first.

With the great weather we've been having here in the northeast, I've been a tinkering on ours quite a bit. The wife and I (yes, she drives therm too :banana-rock: ) decided it was time for a couple of tractors to have new rear tires...

But you know how it is...what you buy won't be enough. You have to make them better than new. So after 8 hours of cutting and grinding, we're set to go (at least as far as tires are concerned  )

Here's side by side comparison...

Still some work to be done, such as regearing and making more weights, but with the first pull 2 weeks away, this goes a long ways towards being ready... :D

That was my weekend...

You know that you could have just done one, then sent it to Paul Gage to make the others, right? :banana-rock:

You make your own wheel weights? How? Is there a link to a method?

No, not making wheel weights. But 20-30 lb weights to add to the tractor.

You see, tractor weighs around 500lbs, wife weighs less than 120. Tractor with rider can weigh up to 1000, so I have to add around 380lbs to be competitive.
I've been using steel weights right along, but lead weight is heavier, thus you can have the same weight in a smaller area.

But speaking of wheel weights, I went around to a few garages locally, and have scoffed up all their wheels weights they've taken off when changing tires (it's amazing what a 5 gallon bucket of these weigh!!). I am planning to melt these down and pour into molds of the shape I want. Then I can add these to the tractor...

I've wondered if I could make them from ferroconcrete.
