Hello. I'm a long time (since early 60's) 1/32 scale slot car racer who was surprised to see so many 1/43 scale post on the forum because I always considered them to be cheap toys and not quality hobby items, like I got used to from Pioneer and similar manufacturers.
Then I bought a bunch of 1/43 diecast bodies to convert to slot cars. After checking out Fast-Lane and Artin chassis I felt my prior suspicion was true. I hadn't seen guide pins used on slot cars since moving up from HO. The cars ran okay if the wheels and tire weren't too wobbly, but no easy way to swap parts or customize stuff.
Then I decided to try some 3D printed chassis with running gear from Ranch Design. My cost is now up to about $40 a car but I like the look and quality. But I need help with two remaining issues - the chassis are so light I'm not getting much traction, and also I don't know what to use for braid on the 3D printed guide flags. What do you suggest?
What are the preferred brands, parts, and setups among the folks doing real racing with 1/43 scale cars? Also, are you racing with or without magnets on plastic or wood track?
Thanks for your help.
