I've seen those little cars at amusement parks that ride along steel rails. The kids can control the throttle, but the car basically turns itself. I image that those rail cars won out ahead of these giant slot cars because what happens when something gets stuck in the slot? I'd imagine that the car would stop rather abruptly and many a chipped tooth would result.

Oh Yea... Scat Track, forgotten all about that place. I grew up in Scottsadale. Bobby Unser was there for the grand openning. told my friends that were there it wont last long. It did'nt, maybe a few months, if that. The track was a big slot car track for sure. The slot was made of something like angle iron as the picture shows. They also built a one lane test track in field by my house. Just a hairpin oval. We had a lot Stingray bike races on that track. Was interesing changing lanes with that slot. Yep, stuffed the front wheel in there a few times.

Like so many other cool things, it is sad to hear it went away quickly. I'm sure someone must have lost a small fortune after building all of that.

I do know as a kid going to Disneyland, I was SOOOO disappointed in their raceway. I did it again a few years ago for nostalgia and it didn't seem to bother me as much...but the traffic reminded me of the 405 in LA - bumper to bumper.

Too much work for the slots. I remember seeing Jr.'s house on TV once. He has a seriously nasty little oval with some fast carts...I'm in for that!

Ok Jeremy, you wont build a car to make a 1/32 bomber for the HRW Bomber series but this you will spend the money on to build! :doh: I guess all the rooms in the house have tracks so now you must go outside. :lol: :mrgreen:

I have a track plan for you Jeremy. Yeah, I know...pretty nice of me to do that for you.

Picture a squeeze chicane right in front of the storm shelter.

Smokey always said concrete was the way to go. Since we want both road and oval type cars, let's get the yard measurements figured out.

Rusty can do most of the work and can be easily supervised from the back porch.

Can you imagine... true slot cars big enough for "full size" adults (over 6'+, 200 lb.+), with a snappy electric motor powerful enough to spin the rear wheels from a standing start, and a carbon fiber guide flag about 2" thick and 12" long? Fixed axles front and rear with some appropriate sized go kart slicks. Standard slot car style pinion and spur gear fixed ratio drive system. Of course, we couldn't go much past 24v DC, or we'd all be gettin' electrocuted! Don't forget a dynamic brake circuit or lane colors, either.

It would cost a friggin' fortune in modern $$$... Somebody, please... HIT THE LOTTERY!! Sign me up to drive!

Wearin' a helmet, gloves, and harness with a roll bar, controlling the throttle with your right foot and just hangin' on to a stationary steering wheel... knowin' that if you enter a turn too quickly or powerslide the tail just a little too far will result in a deslot -- OUCH!! The corner marshalls would need to have EMT certification! And.. none of those cheater downforce magnets!

Talk about your insanely expensive amusement park rides!

Bibbster I think you missed the point you could use the linear mag to float the cars with the wheels barely touching the ground speed could reach in excess of two hundred + mph.
Now that would be interesting don't you think?
But you'd have to ask the better part of your life permission to install the track.

Just like some decent idea this slot car you can ride went away what a shame looked like it would have been fun.
