Gee I will go to the other side of a quarter of an acre. I wonder if they can find their way back?

If they are well connected racoons, they will have an app for that.....

This is fun to read on account of us not having any racoons :) in the past we have had a couple of possums, which can be a bit destructive, my had a family living in his shed which he used to feed, it was pretty well behaved

Yup. No problem at all with raccoons here, but a randy koala grunting away in the tree across the road can mean no sleep for the night.

My house backs up to a creek and they area constant problem, if I did not live in the city I would probably just shoot them, but as it stands I live trap them then drive down to the local river bed (about 15 miles away) & let them go. They are Mean and destructive little varmints.

I set out my trap 7 nights in a row and I caught 5 Raccoon's, 1 Dog and a Kitty cat! My bait of choice is tuna fish, good & smelly they can't resist it!! But dog food works pretty good too!

Sometimes I catch Possums, but I feel bad for them cause they are so stupid! When I release a raccoon, by the time I get the gate half way open it's GONE! With a Possum, I open it, then I stand around for a while . . . Waiting . . . . and waiting . . . the more you try to scare'em out of the cage the more they hunker down and hiss at you!! Not sure how they have avoided extinction??? They must taste bad????

Oh, And if you did not know already storm drains are the Racoon Highway!!

Oh man... I've seen Dan's backyard up close. I am a big fat guy, and I was very stiff and sore from travelling, but it was impossible for me to stand near where his property drops off to a very pretty, but deep and gorge-like creek that is lush with growth, from honeysuckle to huge trees. I had forgotten that until the last post. Now I remember and I'd be surprised if this isn't the tip of his iceberg in the coming war. Its really raccoon heaven.

Too bad they aren't like rats. Rats are easy to kill. Just give them some good old Coca Cola. They love it, but they can't burp, and the carbonation gets 'em. :D

"range from 7 acres for females in cities to 20 sq mi for males"- This could be bad. How far do you take them to dump them? According to this, the gas alone could be really expensive.

Oh, and having lived many years with alligators all around town (bayou boy, remember), I can tell you that even when they are dying, they ain't picky eaters about anything, including car tires (with air in them and still on the car), and plastic pink flamingoes. Toss 'em a coon and they'll fight for it. We used to look down from the little bridge we crossed on the way to school and watch them in the bayou. Dinosaurs.
