I got caught in a thunder snowstorm in Colorado this afternoon. How weird is that for August?

As for the weather...June is fire month, July and August are monsoon months...this is actually normal weather for us. Just make sure you get off the peaks early in the day!

Wow, I don't log in for a few days and disaster strikes our fearless leader! My best wishes from rainy, humid Long Island. The temps are only in the high 70's - low 80's, but the A/C is workin' overtime 24/7. We're getting coastal flood/severe thunderstorm warnings every other day, but nothing like the stuff you're experiencing now. Man, we've still got nightmares from Sandy here. I hope all is well soon.

David, how are things around 24 on the East side of 25? isn't that the black forest burn area? I got your message three days after you sent it, cell service in Rico CO is poor and even worse when you are up the side of a mountain. I am now in Moab Utah 2600 miles down the road from home. Went from snow at 13,180 feet up on Imogene Pass to 88 degrees at 3900 feet in Moab at 8:30 PM five hours later. Colorado is beautiful country, I liked driving through Paradox Valley on 90. Is that where they filmed the movie Cars?

Harry, sorry for bringing the rain to your neighborhood, I stayed on Hwy 44 right where it was closed.

I feel bad for all that are affected in both of your local areas and all the other people who got flooded out around the nation. Here I am on vacation bitchin about a little bit of rain dampening my fun.

Ken - I actually called twice since I'd not heard from you...sounds like you got them way late. Are you coming back this way on the way home? I'm SOOOO jealous you're in Moab now.

24 East is just fine. The good news if it can be called that is that the Black Forrest is relatively flat. 24 coming out of Ute Pass is the problem - the burn area is in steep terrain and there is ZERO erosion control. They are still digging mud out of parts of Manitou Springs. We got hammered here at the house last night, I imagine they got it worse.

I came back through Ute Pass on my way to Limon. There was rain coming down, signboards that said Flash Flood warning and road signs telling you to head to high ground. It was a bit unnerving to say the least. I have been in that area that was hit the last time I was here. Yes it was still a mess and the exit to the area was still closed.
Moab was great, I will have to pick you up the next time I go out there. I hate doing trails by myself, that old Boy Scout training kicking in you know.

Moose - that is very cool. I made Eagle, so did my son. I spent 3 years as a Cubmaster and 8 as an Asst. Scoutmaster. Loved it.
