Gotta tell ya Ralph, I was also going to question whether I should continue posting my Modified builds. Was also wondering if there was still any interest from the Forum Members.
I'll vote for you to keep posting, always interested in how much effort goes into your garage and track dioramas!
My track goes from being a track to a sorting area for my camping gaer, to a sorting area for my kayaking gear, to a track and back again on an all to regular basis. Have never been able to do any scenery for that reason.
Have to admit though, I don't get much out of actually running the cars, for me its all about the building and painting.
Keep em coming!

FWIW- I'm not really into modern Dirttrack Racing, and my main interest is the vintage Racing stuff from the 1950's up thru to the late 1970's.
Anyway, I do own a couple of modern Dirttrackers, and the following is one of them.
The Body is a custom made(to my specs) PAPER Modified Body made by Gabe Lozano, a year or two ago. He would make the Graphics of the car to whatever colors and sponsors(wording and #'s) you requested. Without further ado, here was my design...

BTW- Gabe was even experimenting with "Muddy" Graphics on his cars too !

If any of you are interested in Gabes "Paper" Custom Designed Modified bodies, just let me know, and I'll put you in touch with him.

Nice cars Ralph. I have had to adjust to the new body work over the years. It was either that or give up the only sport I have any real interest in. Although I do attend Late Model and Sprint races occasionally, it is still the Modifieds that are my true draw to the track. Sprint cars without wings are cool, but I don't enjoy the 10 hour drive to the tracks that run them!

The guys at Heister's in Reading run the paper bodies, they are really light and look nice, but it is one of the main reasons I decided not add that venue to my racing endeavors. As I've mentioned before, I just won't race anything I have not painted myself. Computer made graphics are the "Devils work"....lol.

Oh, the fact that they run Tyco's was a big part also. I only own, maybe a half dozen Tyco's. They just never appealed to me, kinda like the Ford/Chevy argument. You should either like one or the other, but never both? I also can't work on inline motors to save my life. When I tried to run G-Plus cars in our open class, my tuning method consisted of the following, buy a few cars...put the first one on the track, if it isn't fast, try another. Keep the good ones, sell the others...that is how I tune an inline car?!?!?

Gents, don't get discouraged. HRW is a big house and I think Harry is just up to his ears. As for HO, I think we all grew up with it and still have some of it. Mine is just not worth posting though as I have so little now.

I love seeing these cars and some of the stuff you guys build. Just remember, if it has a pin, a flag, or a guide, I'm all over it!

Cool Coupe !

Postby Ralphthe3rd » Wed Aug 14, 2013 8:21 am

Slightly off-topic question... but does anyone know if anybody is making/selling HO Resin Bodies, of a body like the old Chevy Coupe seen in the following pic...
Image
Can any of you Identify the Year and Model of this Old (I believe?) Chevy Coupe Drag Car> Mister Irish. *Note the lack of side windows behind the doors.

Mr. Irish

It looks like this '40 Chevy coupe, but it's lacking the extra windows... so I guess it's a '40 Chevy ?

More of Mr. Irish !

Postby Ralphthe3rd » Wed Aug 14, 2013 11:35 am

Woohoo ! I found MORE Pix Online, as well as info of what became of Mr. Irish...
Image
FYI- they are pix of it's final incarnation in the early 80's right before it was sold.

Don't ya just LOVE Old Gassers- Before they had Narrowed Rear Ends !

Anyway, I'm gonna try and model Mr. Irish in 1/64th scale, using the old Tyco '40 Ford as the rear 2/3 of the build, now I just gotta find the front 1/3 part :D

Mr. Irish in 1/64 scale

Postby Ralphthe3rd » Wed Aug 14, 2013 9:08 pm

Ok now, you've seen the 1:1 pix of the REAL Mr. Irish '40 Chevy Custom Drag Car. Well, I want to build a 1/64 replica, although it won't be exact, mainly because Nobody makes a plastic '40 Chevy Coupe body in 1/64 scale.
But what I plan on doing, is using the following '39 Chevy Sedan/coach body for the nose 1/3...
Image
, and then mating that to 2/3's of the old Tyco '40 Ford Coupe Body, and filling in as much of the details as possible.
Image

I realize that a '39 and '40 Chevy Nose are quite a bit different in the Grill and headlight portions, but it's the closest car to match, that is available.

Project -Mr. Irish Tribute

Postby Ralphthe3rd » Fri Aug 16, 2013 7:33 pm

FYI, "Project Mr. Irish Tribute Car" has begun :)
I decided to use the entire Tyco '40 Ford(with small front wheelwells), for this conversion into the Mr. Irish '40 Chevy custom Gasser. After looking at the grills and noses of both the Tyco '40 Ford and the Blue '39 Chevy Sedan, I figured it would be alot easier just to modify the Ford nose, than to transplant the '39 Chevy nose and THEN fudge it into a '40 nose anyway. So this way, I know the wheelwells will line up and all I really need to do is make Bullet headlights for atop the fenders, and continue with the detail mods that I've already started-as seen below.

Image
I've worked on the nose and sanded off the ford headlights, rounded the tip of the hood, and whittled the grill into the shape of the Chevy Grill- somewhat... what do you think so far. And the green paint is just to show up flaws to be filled in later. The actual Green of Mr. Irish, is probably close to the car body color in the left side of photo.
Image
In the Rear I opened up the split Ford window into the Chevy Rectangle shape, I also Gooped in the OEM Tyco 1/4 windows, and later will fill them the rest of the way with Nitro-Stan(1:1 body putty). I may later slant the door windows a little on the trailing edge to match the '40 Chevy style.

Image
These are the only photos I have of Mr. Irish, I need More pix to show the rear end better.
Image
Mr. Irish sure was a Pretty car...as seen in these final evolution pix, before it was sold and became a Purple Street Rod :(
