Performance:
Fumey's 9 car seemed to have a ton more power than everything else. We were actually surprised to see that it only won by 16 laps over a race of this length. Everyone agreed that the DCS 47 car was the best build, smoothest, and deceptively fast. Harry's two barges were driver favorites. They were pretty waggy, but stayed in the track, and rewarded smooth turn exits. Also, while they ran in different groups, the difference in total laps was only 2. The best racing was midpack where we had 4 cars separated by a total of 4 laps. Several of the guys really liked the Guy 34 car, and it was generally agreed that if Reek's car turned better, it would have been a serious contender.
Mechanical issues:
You've already read about Reek's car. Two major issues during the race:
WayTooMuch #8 car spun a rim. The axle on the outside was just spinning in the rim.
Austin #9 car spun a pinion. We initially thought it had dropped a motor.
The Hogan #22 car ran great all night, but lost both bumpers.
The HillBilly #4 car lost a bumper.
Others - We had 5 or 6 of the cars have issues with the right rear. The tires were sliding off of the rim. This was probably due to the cars spending so much time at WOT and leaning on the right rear so hard.
The cars all looked so delicate, but they held together great.
Personal note - I love the Edsel. I need one of those, and need to make it fast. I'll be thinking of that car when I'm trying to beat Larry's Camaro with my Studebaker in the SuperStox race this coming Sunday.
Observation:
If you guys do this again, it might be better to tailor the heat length based on the type and length of each track. It looks like the top cars ran almost half of their laps at our place. This will tilt the results towards the big horsepower cars. If I see it correctly, the other oval had 3 lanes and was tighter than ours. The cars ran 12 minutes there, and 24 minutes here. It probably doesn't matter so much on the road courses, but it makes a big difference on the ovals. No biggie either way, just throwing it out there. We were glad to get each of the cars for 4 minutes.
