Historic Trans Am cars...

Made my annual trip to Lime Rock Park in CT this past weekend for the vintage race festival..
300 classic race cars competing in 10 groups.. It's always a great time but this year was the return of the Trans Am cars..
First time since 2006 they have been there.. It is so cool to be able to see them up close, climb in and imagine what it must have been like.
My kids got to sit in several (and I couldn't resist squeezing in to a Follmer Mustang).

Real CRAZY men... I didn't know the old Chrysler Firepower was ever in an Indy car of that era. I would have guessed it was so heavy it wouldn't work. Especially against the Offys with nearly 3 horsepower per cubic inch and no head gasket to blow. I remember watching all those Watson roadsters with Offenhauser engines screaming around Indy. And the fires.

But I would have done it. Immortality of youth was an idea we unknowingly cherished. When I think of all those street races, all that horsepower, road racing on country roads at night... We were just plain nuts. And spoiled rotten. The guys in cars like that on real race tracks, b*alls out, full throttle, skinny tires, inches away from certain death all the time-- they were the gritty real thing. We were just bad children. People who can be generous with vehicles with so much history wound up in every piece deserve a lot of admiration and gratitude.
