Race Results from Zombie Speedway in NC

Some of the Winston-Salem guys drove out to Mooresville to race on the oval at Zombie Speedway East. We had six racers total, which gave us two turn marshals for the four-lane oval. This race saw the introduction of a new class for the oval, a Kemtron powered version of the BRISCA F1 cars. This quickly became a favorite of the group as nearly every heat finished with everyone having the same number of laps with the cars separated by inches to a few feet. Most of the races were run IROC style with each car staying on the lane while the drivers rotated lanes at the end of each heat. Only the Hardbody Stock Car and Monogram Vintage NASCAR races were run with each driver running the same car throughout. Below are some pics of the cars we ran and the race results.

Most of the Vettes are powered by Plafitt Cheetah II motors; one still has an older 16D in it. The Vettes are a blast to drive and the irony in this race was that Steve actually drives a Vette and came in 5th.

The "Zombie" name came about when my friend on the west coast, Jeff Bell, was observing a wing car race at Buena Park Raceway. Wing racers usually have a pit crew to prep their lane and car between heats, so all they have to do is move their controller and look at the computer to see where they stand. Jeff said they looked like a bunch of "zombies" staring at the computer screen, so he decided to start "Team Zombie" in order to make fun of the wing guys. Team Zombie members just race to have fun. Jeff's home track, which I built, was then named "Zombie Speedway West", so I named mine "Zombie Speedway East". Here's a pic of Jeff's track in the process of being painted Zombie Green:
