Carrera GO! Speed Controllers....

I have yet to purchase a Carrera GO slot car track, because I'm wondering if it is possible to modify the speed controller so I can regulate the throttle. For instance I currently have an SCX slot car set and was able to drill a small hole in the trigger and insert a small plastic dowel so my 3 yr old son can't squeeze the trigger all the way down. I see the Carrera speed controller is quite different and wanted to know if it was possible to do something similar or can I in some way use the same style controller the SCX set has on the Carrera set?

Any help is appreciated.!

Some Go controllers have a clip on piece under the thumb pad.

One more question...I'm sure this set doesn't appeal to most of you guys, but have you heard anything good or bad about the Mario Kart 7 Carrera GO set? That's the one I'm thinking of purchasing. As I mentioned I have the SCX compact Tri-Oval set, but other than that the slot car scene is pretty new to me...I'm more into 1/10 scale RC's, trail rigs and crawlers....
