Austin Mini & Bugeye Sprite build - 2 on 1

Postby VTECFOUR » Sat Nov 30, 2013 3:11 pm

Have one built chassis left that fits either a Shotgun Dave Austin Mini or Munter Bugeye Sprite resin body.

Image

Which one to go for?

Why not build both to share the same chassis? Either way, I'll have an entry for a present or proposed small car proxy.

Wheel flares for both, next.

Tackling the Bugeye, first.

Added some flares and a full tonneau cover. Going for a baby Cobra look in white with dual blue stripes.

Working out, so far.

My two favourite cars on one chassis!

Watching with interest.

Got some BWA Halibrand inserts painted and inserted into my Ranch Design rims for the baby Cobra look.

This is going to work.

Very neat looking cars. Flares have always eluded me. I've tried to make them but never had much luck. :)

Got the Mini's flares on now.

Wasn't sure how the Halibrand inserts would work, but I'm good with it.

More Bugeye progress.

Rollbar and driver figure mocked in.

More body prep and then a first coat of primer are next.

Got the first Tamiya white primer coat on both and as usual, revealed the gaps and pinholes that need filler.

Image

Threw in a Top Slot Chaparral 2D resin body that just needed a bit of sanding before first coat.

They're getting there.

Mini body's done!

Runs really well, better than the previous Mini. It's the identical set up, so I'm not sure why.

Bugeye's ready for final coat.

Almost there.
