Putting lights in te R18

Postby Austin » Mon Dec 30, 2013 5:08 am

Has any one put ligths in a R18 ? I just ordered a light kit from SCC that I what to put in my Slot-it R18. I just wonder if with the head lamps the R18 has if they can look right.

I wonder if you could use EL wire for that application.
Might have to call and talk to a person.....Miller Engineering?

OK, Wish me luck. Lights are going in today. Seams like no one has done this on any of the forums, if they did they wouldn't say. I will take photos and post if it comes out good or bad.

While you are putting the taillights in the wing you might as well work on the adaptive headlights. :P

Try #2 looks very good. Did you just change the position of the bulb?

Putting accurate tail lights in these LMP cars is nearly impossible. I have looked at the Scaley Cadillac trying to figure a way to mount tail lights and have given up. And that's probably why Scaley left off working tail lights.

Wow overkill with the regulator. A 100mA version would have been sufficient and a lot smaller. Or just place two 5.5V supercaps in series and run one or two diodes to drop the 12V to about 11V. Placing the two caps in series halves the capacitance but youre still better off energy storage wise. E = 0.5CV^2 So you half the C value but since its V^2 the net result is double the energy storage by going to 11V instead of 5.5V.

cheers

I am not sure that switching the regulator to 100 mA would be wise for this kit. The circuit is designed for the LEDs to run at optimum forward current which would put this at 90 mA. The kit was designed like this so the LEDs would be bright so the car can be raced at night. It was also done to have the flexibility to add more LEDs such as multiple front lights, brake light kits, and interior lights. This could put the system at close to 200 mA.

For those of use who have driven cars with these kits during a night race can appreciate the light this kit puts out. It may be overkill for the standard user but if you really want to see your car in the dark, there is no better kit.
