The action we have on our oval is some of the most fun we have here.
The appeal is not just the racing though.
It is the models we build. I like classic NASCAR, Old School Beach Racing, Jalopys, etc. It is all the cars of oval racing that I enjoy to build. Seeing them racing on the track is the thrill for me. Recreating 1956 at Daytona or '67 at Dega. That is fun for me.
For many, just going in a circle can be boring. It is far from that for myself, but I am a little touched upstairs. I can drive my models for hours, watching them drift through the corners. Setting up the lap timer and seeing if I can best that hot lap I just cut. Just watching the big Mercury swing out and recover it, or the old coupe leaning hard coming out of turn 4...I just enjoy the view.
When we are racing? Oh it gets better. Trying to time that pass in turn 2. You are right behind a guy and he is really drifting that rear end out there...but your sniffin' him like an old dog. Just waiting for that time when he is slow to recover and you squirt past on the back straight.
The there are the times when you get a spin and? Well, I hope you were hungry because you just got a T-bone :) But it was coming, the wreck actually started back in turn 1 when he leaned a little hard on you. You hear that whack of the plastic and tell yourself that in turn 3 you will lay off and not let your driver door act like a fence.
Even standing at the end of the track and watching as 4 old coupes drift the corners, or those late models hauling the mail down the straight. It truly is a sight.
Oval racing is not for everyone. If you have the passion for oval racing and the cars that race on it, it is a blast. If you are just wanting "close racing" and the cars/series does not matter that much then build a road course.
