"Clackers" is the name I recall for the wrist-busters on a string.

I remember those! I had the tank (my father was Armored, and we were still living on base- all the boys had them and some of the girls). I wanted the sub, which for some reason I thought was named Polaris, like the real one.

Wow! You guys had rich parents. My younger brother and I didn't have such fancy toys
until we started buying them ourselves.

Johnny; Your Father was in the Black Watch? That is something special. And if you had
a real claymore to play with, all I can say is that's a pretty big stick for a kid to swing.
My ancestors are from Scotland, going back to the 1300s at least, but no one with any
credentials. They were mostly crofters, and metalworkers.

I kept a can of Hamm's in my trunk for a fire extinguisher for years because it foamed so much.

And that drive-in movie speaker reminds me of the 1959 Cadillac hearse/ambulance I owed with two other idiots in college. We put in $75 each, and it was delivered to us on a warehouse floor by forklift. After we screwed around with it for a week, it ran great, and we took our dates to the drive-in (that's six people), and parked sideways with a speaker in each end of the car (that's how long it was). To paint it, we had a party, and to get in the door you had to have a 6 pack and a can of spray paint (color choice of the buyer). At some point during the party, people went out in the back yard and sprayed their can on the car. We masked it off ahead of time, but some jerks lifted the corner of the windshield masking and sprayed the windshield. Took some scraping, but other than that, it was a great success. Ah, 1970. Its a wonder I can remember any of it.

That reference of if you can remember it you were not there is for the baby boom generation and the 1960s. Just FYI...and col about the clackers, we have an original set and we play with them regularly in our house...once I can get over 20 seconds, I will post a vid. And the resulting whack on the forearm/wrist. LOL.
