Home Racing Track Report - Lee Wright

Postby HomeRacingWorld » Wed Jan 29, 2014 4:38 pm

It is not often I get to travel this far to enjoy some racing, so this was really special. Lee is a good friend and has been visiting old HRW for a long time. Finally, The General decided it was time for me to visit and I could not wait to enjoy his recently rebuilt layout.

Great poster Lee had made sets the tone for the fun.

I mailed my cars ahead of time and had a great display to greet me.

Now this is a smart and very cool way to store your hot rods.

Image

Now he knows how to decorate a tool box :)

This track is a great example that you do not need a large layout to have fun. Although the scenery is still in progress, I thought it looked great!

Image

From the painted rumble strips to the work on pit row, he makes a smaller space come alive. Very smooth work on the routing and braid work let's you know this isn't just for looks, it is meant to be raced on.

Image

Among the many cars we raced, these Slotwings (Flyslot) 512s were a great sight.

Image

This was a race I really looked forward to. I was hoping my Aston Martin would give this Porsche a good fight. It did. I took an easy 2nd :)

Image

And of course, the Trans-Am cars were all we could hope for.

The track is a blast. I have raced on larger systems but the fun factor on Lee's track is way up on the list. The simple design allows you to enjoy your models and provides tight racing. The tighter turn going in on the hill will keep you on your game too. We had hours of door to door slot fighting and that is what I enjoy the most. I don't need a lap timer or an "official" race to enjoy this hobby and this visit just proved it one more time.

But racing is just part of it. None of toys mean much without good people to enjoy them with. Lee and his family are the best. His wife Erika made me a great cake and Lee let me invade his grill :) This was one of those visits that make you thankful we have a hobby like this one. Thanks to these little cars I had the pleasure of visiting and having one great time.

Thanks again to Lee and his family for allowing me to visit. I really appreciated it and I plan to visit again :)

Aw, man. That looks just a great as I thought it would. Couldn't have happened to better people. Now, get back to shoveling snow, you husky. The frozen tundra won't clear itself. On, you huskies!

That is what makes this a great hobby. Fun, fun, fun. I would much rather just run for the fun of it than actually race anymore. I guess I've lost my competitive edge. :)

Well Pickles, I plan on it. This recent Martini 917 from Carrera pushed me over the edge. Not that I need much of a push!

Warmer here today. No snow......yet.

Yeah Ken, just like down here. Just having fun.

So, where is this track and does he welcome company? I assume it is in Florida in the Tampa area.

Yes, Tampa area Bob. I would just PM Lee (ListerstormGT).

And he is quite the griller too. Soon, a Jedi he will be.
