RM to get a basement in the USA it depends on what area you live in, here in the mid-west they are pretty much the norm, but States like Florida or Texas you will not find many basements The east coast is about 50-50

What Jon said... and remember that the middle section of the US is more or less where Tornado Alley lies. Shelter is a very big deal when the big winds drop down from the sky.

For a newbie like me, there will be some tools I do not own that you use for maintaining, fixing, and creating slot cars. A picture can say a thousand words!!

There is also a lathe and drill press in back that is getting moved.

Sort of silly isn't it? All these tools for toys :) And this is nothing compared to some of the folks here.

But above all of this, a good Philips cross-tip screwdriver might be your most valuable tool. Without that, you won't get very far. :)

Basements are very common in Colorado. We are contemplating moving this year in order to downsize both the house and the mortgage payment. Guess what? Not easy out here. Houses in Colorado are very expensive and finding one that has a place for the slot cars is difficult unless you get a full basement. I won't begin to tell you how disappointed we've been in the homes available. Way too big and way too expensive for our needs/wants. However, that's the market...
