This is a good request, I wish there was a local US decal person, although I might be able to help you. If you decide to tackle this yourself and print on your ink jet or laser printer, you will need to match the blue color of the body and have this as the background color on the decal sheet. If you use an Alps printer, you can print white on clear water transfer paper and don't need to worry about matching body color.
Printing the decals on water transfer paper is only half the battle, crafting the same exact typography, the small nuiances of hand lettering in the day and other subtle graphic catches also makes for a huge challenge to someone not customarially used to doing this. But, when done properly, the end result is as close to the real deal as possible. Think scale. Also, making sure they come out crystal clear and super high resolution at these super tiny sizes is another challenge on your inkjet. You just need to use the right tricks in your graphic bag :-) I just completed a set for the Trans-Am T. Adamowicz Porsche 911 and they came out great. As for crafting up the same exact look from 1968 on the 911, it also helps I'm an Art Director and have been designing for 20+ years.
I happen to have a signed postcard from Mark Donahue in his 1969 Camaro Trans-Am Sunoco sponsored race car. It is something that I remember getting and having him sign when my Dad took me there to his shop. I've kept it for all these years, maybe it was a sign I need to help you on this project?
