once ya get it nailed down to what track ya want,and decide ta do some super tuning(gears,tires etc)may I suggest getting hold of Steve@RANCH DESIGN,and then if you choose to go with some different bodies,check out 43MOTORSPORTS,he has a great inventory of different bodies!

Trev, I think you are making a good choice, Carrera track is probably THE way to go! You can start with an analog set and add the digital later OR get a digital set and add track and a D132 black box later. Any way you go I would stay away from the Carrera 1/24-1/32 track It's HUGE! And unless you have a large room it will limit your options, the ONLY good thing about a 1/32+ scale track is being able to run 1/32 or 1/24 scale cars, which makes sense if you have a bunch of those, but is a bit silly if you don't .

The footprint of most 1/43 scale tracks is not much different to HO; you can fit a much more complex (and interesting) layout AND still have space for scenic elements, Which if your coming from O gauge you probably have allot of Scenics and they work so well with this scale. Most of your trees and building will be quite @ home next to these cars.

It would be important to note that although Carrera track is THE track of choice in this scale if you REALLY want to hang the back end out round the corners you will need to buy cars from other brands, SCX, Kyosho OR modify your Carrera's OR build your own!

Yes I'm very happy to be settlingon 1:43. It's as close as I can get to my 1:48 scale trains. Building a small race track for my son's room is the first stage of the plans. A test case :-)

We've got space in his room for a 4x12 sized setup, but he also wants his Lego trians setup on the same table. Which should work well.

For me... I've got rather larger plans. My true focus is O Scale trains. My entire basement is trains which is about 40x30 square feet of space. Here's a link to the turn table my son and I have started building.



It is up and functional. We (as in I) will start detailing it soon. My son (age 6) is actually a big help quite often. He's help me build most of the layout over the past 2 years. Once I get to building the roadway (ie slot cars) for the trains I will likely build my own wooden track. I have a lot to learn about slot cars before then. So building an initial layout for my son with Carrera track is a good start I think.

I'm an n scaler myself and just acquired a small collection of Ho from a member here on the boards recently also.

I'm considering building a ho train /slot layout with my left over tomy track from my 4 laner build.

I've always wanted to acquire an o gauge train set. Those rail sounds are truly amazing in those big steamers.

Your double track truss bridge is very realistic looking too.

I couldn't imagine having to do scenery on a layout that size!

great videos.I too enjoy running O gauge trains,but nothing like you have.Some very smooth nice running models pulling some very long trains.If you can do this with your train layout you will be able to do any thing you want with slots.

That is a fine railroad you have there, beautiful smooth running! As Rusty says, if that is the standard you work to, 1/43 slots will give you no problems!
