I bought the wiring kit from SCC and am very happy with it since I have never wired a track before. I have everything planned out and am ready to start that phase next. Once the wiring is done, I have most of the fencing done and ready to install as well. I am borrowing or stealing some ideas from you all with the gutter screen and the screen cap because I really liked how they looked. Eventually, I will be building a sign that resembles the original Tunis Speedway sign and the announcer tower. And finally, I want to install lights so that I can race at night. I was hoping to have it running by the end of today, but things got rather busy with church so the track took a back seat. So am hoping to have it running by the end of next week.

Are they slot cars or just built models?

Really looks the part with the paint now. Is that Revell track you are using?

Great idea using MDF if you ever route, but in the meantime it makes a great bench top. What are the plans for catch fencing?

Those cars are an incredible piece of history. Great stuff to see the builds they were doing all the way back then with what they had onhand. Buttons for wheels - genius!

Pretty impressive project and looks great so far.

But those cardboard cars are wonderful. You are very lucky to have such great models like that. Reminds me about those stories you hear all the time from us "old folks" about how tough we had it compared to today.

But then you see something like these cars. That is what they had to do to have fun. Priceless.

The cardboard cars are really cool. He used to have a couple of hundred of them packed away under his train tables but then sold a bunch of them. A guy offered him $20 a car. I don't know how many he sold but he was happy with the price since he didn't think any one would be interested. A couple of years ago, he found one of his old cars in an antique shop and bought it back for $40.

When I was a kid, he gave me and my friend a car so we could wreck em and then taught us to build our own. We were in scouts at the time and some of the other guys in our troop saw them and wanted to learn how to make them so he taught our troop. I still have my body patterns downstairs and have a Hudson started that is a cardboard body but plastic fenders. It is going to be an old stock car and am thinking that it may end up as a slot car.

Dave, I am going to tape it as well. That way I know it will have good power all the way around.

Amazing the difference in "look" with the paint! And I imagine, the painted surface lends itself to "drifting" a lot more so than the original plastic surface does. :)
