I haven't been on the forum in awhile and this is all new to me, and also very interesting. My main pet peeve with slot car racing (that I've been doing for many decades) is the cars are too fast. Unrealistically too fast. Seems odd to me to want cars that are visually to scale, with realistic features and decals, and then race them at hundreds of scale miles per hour when their real 1:1 counterparts race at a fraction of that speed. Having slot cars accelerate at realistic rates, like the way digital model railroad trains do, would make the hobby much more fun for me. I know racers crave speed, and always want more, but speed is relative and competitiveness matters more to me. Doubling lap times while still putting a premium on driver ability would be a welcome change for me. Imagine slot car races with close racing and finishes like full sized car. No one would watch 1:1 scale racing if the margin of victory was measured in laps.
So, can these controllers be used to do this? To have a car take a few seconds to reach top speed at the start of a race or after a pit stop? Also, think about rolling starts (like almost all forms of American racing) and restarts with cars at reasonable speeds and acceleration rates. Or, do any of you folks have any ideas about other ways to have slot cars accelerate and race at realistic speeds?
