Sebring 12 Hrs

Well, more than an hour into the 12 Hours of Sebring, and the Delta Wing is leading the race.

Its fuel tank is 1/3 smaller than the other LMPs, but its fuel mileage is so good, it doesn't have to stop as often.

Risi needs to can his driver, Malucelli. He seems to think he's the only guy on the track. He spins, then pulls his car back onto the track in front of a pack of drivers, creating a big crash. You may remember him from Daytona, where he kept his stricken car on track instead of pulling off, and the DP plowed into the back of him at full throttle.

That's the other thing I'm wondering. There was a pretty good time gap from when the Ferrari went off to when he tried to pull back on the track. With this yellow-crazed series, why weren't at least local yellows flying when Malucelli went off?

Ugh. Matteo must not know how to use a radio, either. He probably got an earfull from Giuseppe over the radio after that.

Was there a local yellow when the P2/PC/whatever-it's-called car spun back around and got hit just now?

I talked to the Delta Wing crew. They get 8 mpg in race trim. The thing now weighs 1180 pounds. They are waiting on new parts to improve the handling. They hit 173 on the long straight and 135 on the 2nd longest. It would pull away from the DP and LMP2 cars on the one straight in the mid-range. It is very impressive for early development. The Delta Wing uses a block machined from a billet and a Mazda cylinder head. Their rep answered every question I asked. Their driver Andy ________ was their best driver and hustled the car. It is one ***** cool car! Outside the box thinking! He said that they had an inside on the Skyactive Mazda's problems. The engine can't handle the the turbo boast they want to pump to it and so they are deficient in HP.

The Action Express car and the Taylor car were very impressive with aggressive driving but the LMP2 guys are catching up. Dixon was great under braking. Watched the Viper burn.

The cars I want as a slot cars were the Skyactive (sp) Mazdas. No HP but beautiful cars.

Bruno Junqueira was the most impressive driver to me in PC class. He was about .8 faster in qualifying than second place. The guy was driving the wheels off the car.
