Leaving the house with my 11 y.o. son the other day and he spots the neighbors new bright green mustang. He gives a low whistle as we drive slowly past and says "when I'm 16 can you paint a new style camaro in that color for me"? I said "sure, I suppose so, but the insurance is gonna be expensive"...as I think let alone buying one...
We get out on the highway , he turns down the radio and he says "You know dad, an old Porsche, like those old 911 ones, would probably cost less than a new camaro and if you say you drive it, the insurance wouldn't cost nothing...and it don't need to be green" Then he turns the radio back up.
I didn't know if I should laugh or cry for joy.

ps… be careful though, early 911's (1965-1973) can be in excess of $120k fully sorted and restored. Even priced at $95k to get your wallet wet for a 911S needing a full restoration… :o

But, short hood galvanized body shell 911s (1976-1989) are much more affordable and will certainly make ALL the hair on your body stand straight up right quick. My Dad and I raced a european spec 1976 Carrera 3.0. Best dollars spent are to invest in a high-perfomance driving school for YOU and the Tire Rack street smart program for your son when he is of age.

I know where a 916 is under a tarp but if I was to buy it I'm not sure which one of us would lose their license first :lol:
If he's lucky he will get a 76 Chevy truck with a 6-cylinder and a roll cage. Other than that he's gonna be driving my 2000 jeep TJ. Bought it new and it only has 45k miles on it.
I am trying to get him interested in an early 70's camaro project though.

Simple solution. Buy them both for him in 1/32 and put them in a car crate. Have it delivered to the driveway on the day of his birthday.
