Chaparral easy build

This is a Monogram 1/24 kit that has the same wheelbase as a Carrera Cheetah. I had to trim the inside front fenders by a very small amount. The best part is that the wide wheel track on the rear of the Cheetah chassis really fits in well with the wider rear fenders of the Chaparral. This model kit is of the 1966 Daytona car driven by Jim Hall. The kit even came with a painted driver. I will post some more pics once I get the driver in and lights on. I used a lot of glue in the front lights because I knew they were going to take a beating. With digital racing it is hard to not be bumping the other guys in your lane once in a while.

Tail lights are from Radio Shack. I just used the bulbs and poked them through the rear panel.

The driver figure is really cool. His feet fit in. This is the first build I have done that does not have a driver missing his legs!

There are 4 light panels in the front. I placed bulbs in the center 2. I guess the others were for marker lights?

I had a great time racing this against the GT 40's. It took a beating and held together so far.

The only big complaint I have is the door handles go right in the center of the decal on the side. The box shows them cut out, which I tried to do. I think if I ever build another one I will sand down the door handles and ignore them. They protrude too much to decal over and if you cut around them it looks kind of sloppy. The rear decal fell apart when I tried to put it on so it is missing from the car.
