ANZAC Day

Postby Reslotted » Wed Apr 23, 2014 7:30 pm

ANZAC day Friday, It will be the first time I've missed the Dawn Service in Years, due to work, absolutely no way out of it. :(
Hopefully I can get back in time for the mid morning service and march.

While all the Antipodeans (Aussies and Kiwis) out there are giving a bit of Thanks to the old Diggers, spare a thought for the guys and girls still on the ground (and air and sea) in Afghanistan and the middle East. Lets hope they're home soon. :handgestures-salute:

This is the speech made by Kemal Attaturk the Turkish Commander made after WW1 and inscribed on a monument at ANZAC cove in Gallipoli.
Perhaps it's a timely moment to put it out there.

Those heroes that shed their blood
And lost their lives.
You are now lying in the soil of a friendly country.
Therefore rest in peace.
There is no difference between the Johnnies
And the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side
Here in this country of ours.
You, the mothers,
Who sent their sons from far away countries
Wipe away your tears,
Your sons are now lying in our bosom
And are in peace
After having lost their lives on this land they have
Become our sons as well."

We live in hope that mankind can grow beyond the need for such destruction. But I fear that time is every bit as far away now as it was then.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.

A Poem for Remembrance Day

"The inquisitive mind of a child"

Why are they selling poppies, Mummy?
Selling poppies in town today.
The poppies, child, are flowers of love.
For the men who marched away.

But why have they chosen a poppy, Mummy?
Why not a beautiful rose?
Because my child, men fought and died
In the fields where the poppies grow.

But why are the poppies so red, Mummy?
Why are the poppies so red?
Red is the colour of blood, my child.
The blood that our soldiers shed.

The heart of the poppy is black, Mummy.
Why does it have to be black?
Black, my child, is the symbol of grief.
For the men who never came back.

But why, Mummy are you crying so?
Your tears are giving you pain.
My tears are my fears for you my child.
For the world is forgetting again.Author Unknown
I pray that mankind can find peace so all wars will end Image
