addition to dirt track tread!

OK,just pulled the silicone mold, i made this yesterday,and its going to work! found a set of 1/32 plastic tires in my junk box that had raised goodyear lettering on them, i vacu formed one of them and made a quick mold. last night i filled the mold with RTV out of a squeeze tube and let it set -up. this am i pulled the silicone, i now have a rubber? stamp to print on my dirt track tires! anyone got a set of hoosiers that can be cast from? once i cut the lettering out and glue to a handle it should make a great stamp with thinned paint.

I'm glad someone did this. I have been looking at that idea for years and I never seem to get around to trying ways to do it. You just saved me the trouble! I'm sure I have the Goodyear logo on some hard plastic model tires, and I may have a Hoosier, too. I can't wait to try it. Thanks!

I am going to glue the new rubber stamp to a washer that fits over a dowel rod that will center the stamp on the tire,and give a good grip area.

Well,after cutting the G ,the D and the R loose from the stamp and trying to turn them to read correctly, i have managed to make a rubber stamp that works slightly less effectively than the tooth pic trick. It might be do'able with more patience ,but mine is used up with this project. As they say on mythbusters BUSTED! kids,dont try this at home

btaylor - definitely have to give you credit for giving it a go!
I wonder if it would be possible to use thinner lexan where, after drawing, it would be possible to push the letters backward and reverse them that way - then pour your stamp mold with that?
I know I have run into plastic packaging, etc that was that thin... just a thought. :)

Not sure that it would matter how thin the material for the vac pull you're going to lose definition.

I had great definition originally from the mold (I used the tires that come in the snaptite 55 chevy) the problem was when I tried to deli cut the letters to reverse them,not sure how to fix this? maybe when some great minds get rolling.the fix will show up!

There are places that make rubber stamps....like what stamps the back of checks before you stick them in the cash drawer. If we could find a place with imagination I think there is a chance of making a tire stamp.

Whether or not it would actually stamp a rounded sidewall tire remains to be seen :pray:

Heck - I wouldn't even think that it needs to be rubber to do the stamping?
If we could find somebody with access to a 3-D printer and some CAD skills, I would think it would fairly "do-able" to create a positive / backward letter logo stamp. Having them made that way would also all for a variety of tire diameter / letter height combinations to be made and the plastic may be advantageous over rubber as it should be easier to clean up afterward and should allow the letters to be applied without deflection, which in theory might make it easier to get a nice consistent looking application?
Wonder if this is something that choc-ice could do? (or could possibly offer some recommendations?)

I would think that a one size fits most would be a great place to start! Would probably need separate ones for 1/24 vs 1/32 - but if we had a "universal" 1/32 size one that would allow lettering of PG tires, Scalextric tires, etc - that would be AWESOME!!! :D
(can I get in line for one now?)
