A little about Ed - I know he would have loved this forum. I wish I could bring him to Harry's to meet The Professor. I'm convinced that the two of those guys could have built a time machine together. He was seriously funny, as sweet as old men come and he could build or fix anything. He actually got to see my track a few times and we had several nice times talking about the building of it - in particular the routing and AC electrics.
Ed built lots of things - gorgeous wood dinning room tables, he welded up trailers - and he made craft items. He liked to re-purpose old things into odd characters. Dad and Sue have one of his "Dachshunds" in their yard. It is a wiener dog made from a skinny fire extinguisher and yard tools. Cute as heck.
Cowboy Bob was one of my favorites of his though. He is made from a bike frame, some old-school 10-speed handlebars, a big chrome fire extinguisher, and uses tin cans, Coors beer caps and a mailbox liberally. Bob also sports some nifty old cowboy boots - used, of course.
It was a very sad day when Ed passed away suddenly a few years back. Dad and Sue kept many of his creations for their home as well assome of his awesome tools and accessories. But what about Bob? I'm not sure anybody was really sure what to do about Cowboy Bob. He's pretty big, just like the guy that created him after all.
I named him BTW - I've always wondered if Ed named his creations. I think this is one that he'd be ok with.
I asked Sue if I could have him when she was ready. Well, after celebrating my beautiful daughter's 19th Birthday with our family yesterday, I found Cowboy Bob on the front porch. Evidently, Dad and Sue snuck him out there when I wasn't looking.
He's too cool not to leave outside, but I'm afraid some rascal would take off with him. Therefore, he is now my favorite attraction in the basement.
I figure he can hold onto my latest slot car magazines and any little cars that show up in the mail.
I think Ed would be ok with that.
