I agree, but nothing will change. If you see something you like/want you'll just
have to pony up or wait 'til they start being resold on forums and the 'bay.'

I've been picking up Racer and Vanquish cars this way for a few months, you just
have to be patient.....

BTW....I assume you are referring to the Spyker's up coming release.............

I think you are seeing it wrong and in a light that best suits your view, but hey we all do that.

Over producing and flooding the market with cars no one wants doesn't benefit anyone in the distribution chain.

Let me get it right. You want choice. You want quantity. You want new and shiny every week. You want quality. You want cheap. You don't want Chinese.

Did I miss anything?

Ember,

Actually you covered it pretty well for me. :D

Of course I want all that and at a low price. :flags-waveusa:

Isn't that what we all want? :laughing-rolling:

Can of worms? Check.

Can opener? Check.

Chance of things being messy? Check.

Oops, forgot some...

Want manufacturers to make enough for everyone.
Don't want to pre-order.
Want to be able to walk into a store and buy it when you decide you want it.
Want to be able to get lots of different liveries (especially your favourites).
Oh and lots of different models.
And don't release the same car over and over during the years with just a livery change.

Not specifically directed at you Rob. This is just a collection of common complaints from multiple fora.

I wonder if they will do, what scaley is famous for .
Release the collectors at a higher dollar in a fancy box, and in about a year release them as individuals with perhaps a change in car number so it doesn't totally tick off the early purchasers.
For example the First collection of Clark and Gurney in the 67 series.
Then down the road the lotus came out in a bunch of different numbers and drivers and the Westlake had I think 3 different numbers too. Now this year they are doing the ltd editions of different cars from F1
as the Legends. I bet in a year they will be out in different numbers and liveries .
of course I wil buy the ones I want in the ltd sets and likely more when the numbers change.
After all tooling costs a wack of coco and they wont make it back on just a few ltd editions.
Anyway thats my 2 cents on it, and I hate freakin worms slimey little things., yes I fish with plastic ones.

We interrupt this thread due to the following:

Chappy said "yes I fish with plastic ones"

So what is your weapon of choice? I don't like to brag but around here I am a Weapon of Bass Destruction. Flukes and old school Creme work in my fast waters. Natural to bubble gum is the hot ticket.

Please start a new thread if you get the time. Thanks.

We now return you to this thread in it's entirety.

I know that we all enjoy this little hobby in our own way but for me there is NO collector issue. Do not get me wrong, I have felt the urges to purchase cars for value other than racing. Prime example of one of my stronger urges is the Monogram Vintage Stock Car The Truxmore Ford. My reason for that one is that I knew the owner of that car, Mr. Junie Donleavy and he passed away two days ago. Getting back to the original statement, my purchases are done strictly for cars that are capable of racing and being competitive in classes being currently run. I will leave the special short runs for the collectors who want the wrap still on the case, and I will leave the Fly cars to the people who can appreciate the correct number of rivets in a fender. Me, I will continue to purchase the cheapest Slot It Group C cars, NSR post 66 cars and CanAm cars and the TransAm 70 Camaros. These and a healthy supply of after market decals will make my cars easy to follow while racing. Now, lets get to the track, scuff some plastic, break some mirrors and laugh every time a car ends up in a place on the track never intended for a car.

What car are you talking about here WTMITT - it would add some context to some of the comments?

Even though this is now a "." thread, I'd like to weigh in on what I recall pertained to the original post.

:angry-soapbox:

Any collectible that is marketed as a collectible is doomed to never be a collectible in the sense that it's value will ever increase greatly. The only reason old toys are worth anything is that they were toys, were used up to such an extent that there aren't many left still intact or near mint, and folks with higher allowances (old, working/retired but comfortable guys) want to either relieve the thrills of their childhood, or those who were never there but heard about it want to own a bit of nostalgia. And both of those people will often pay out the rear for what they want because it's hard to find.

If a manufacturer of anything releases several thousand fancy-boxed trinkets with "collector's item" and/or "limited edition" decals splattered all over it, it's laughable to think that there will ever be a dearth of those items to such an extent that they enter that realm of scarce examples of whatever thing they are made to resemble. Some folks will fall for the writing, store them in closets, and then put them on ebay in 5-10 years at ludicrous starting prices. (it always makes me laugh when I see something sell for peanuts via a zero-dollar starting bid while there are acres of that very same item that will never sell at $100+ starting prices) It reminds me of the Death of Superman comic book run in the early '90's. There were guys buying arm fulls of those books when it came out because someone had just bought Amazing Fantasy #15 (1st appearance of Spiderman) for a few hundred thousand, and they instantly thought that all comic books became valuable. It doesn't work like that.

So I can't help but think that these collector's editions are marketed to saps. Don't be one. Don't pay outrageous prices for a car just because the packaging tells you that it's collectible or a limited edition. If you really must have it because you love the model, then no amount of over-pricing is going to stop you. I've bought limited edition cars and sets, but not because I'm speculating that someday I'll be able to send my kids through college by selling them, but because I wanted the cars to run the cars.

And the day that the only way to ensure that I am able to own a slot car via preordering one- that is, spending my money on something that I haven't yet seen and determined that it is worthy of my purchase- is the day that you'll find all of my slot cars for sale on ebay... at zero starting bids. Hey, some of them are limited editions, so if you want them, make room in your closets.
