(update july,1) questions about oval layout style

Postby demether » Fri Jun 27, 2014 6:03 pm

Hi,

I'm currently planning my new track (a big 11x6 6 lanes 1/32 wide oval... ), and I'm wondering if anything else than indycar, stock car and nascar still "accurate" on an Oval race track, History speaking ?

I really like endurance and Lemans cars (from early 20th century to today), and classic GTs and F1s, and I was wondering if any of these cars ever raced on a american oval ?

thanks

I don´t really know it, but if you like those cars it gonna hapens!!!
at least at your small slot world.
It´s no problem if you got fun.
Her in Catalonia it was an oval called Terramar during the 30s where raced F1 or whatever was called at that time.

When all we had was an oval, we raced everything on it. So I would say do what you want and just enjoy it.

I'll do, of course !

But I was just curious to know if it happens (or happened) in the real world too

Midgets and their larger cousins are authentic oval cars that you have not mentioned. There are several different generations of both that can be modeled. You might also check out cars that are popular in the US such as cars termed " late models" , "Modifieds", or "Wheelen Modifieds".

Well they do race them at Daytona.

Sure they use the road course...but they race there :)

I believe Lotus raced at Indy in the 500 some years back with Jimmy Clark at the wheel

Thanks for your answer. A good solution would be making a 4lanes oval (wide R4 outer curve) instead of a 6lanes, with a inner 2 lanes road race. It would be cool, the road race would have a big banked R3 turn.

I have to check if a 2 lanes mechanical lane changer (pitstop styled) exists in artin 1/32 range.

By the way, any advises are still welcome; Especially on my turns choice. WHat do you think of it ? I don't see many ovals with that kind of shape. Most of the ovals I see have 2 symetrical round turns.

thanks

Just reread your last post Demether. If you are limiting yourself to a track 4 ft. wide, you have just enough room for what you show in your last photos.

So are you still playing with Artin Digipro? How is it holding up over time? I remember that some of your countrymen were really taking Digipro to another level by moving the reed switches to allow lap counting with no mag racing and stuff like that. Does Artin still sell Digipro there?
Best Regards,
Mike

With 4', I have enough room for :

a D-shape 4 turns oval (like on my pic)
A indy-style 4 turns oval (if I can find half r1s...Tuff job)
A symetrical 2 turns oval (R3 outer, R2 inner)

I'm wondering wich kind of oval is the funniest. I don't have enough room for inner road course, sadly. But anyway, I've got my HO track for that.

Concerning digipro, I quickly sold all the digital parts, and kept the analog track. I don't know if it's available anymore.

Thanks for the history !

I'd really like to run these "cigars" vintage cars. They are a bit pricey in 1/32 scale (except Eldon ones, I believe).
