Harry that was just too cool! You know i have several folks around here racing the midgets,and all of them took several days to be able to drift them through the corners like you did! You truly are a born "ovalist"
I guess that video answers the question of them working on routed wood tracks!!!

Love those Midgets. They look like brilliant fun. How good would a little portable short track oval running nothing but midgets and sprint cars be?

Definitely a beers with the boys track. The slots would run fully elliptical so that if you got it right you'd be tail out the whole way. If you're game you could have the slots crossing at the apexes, but it's not vital. Even the scenic opportunities are great. Station drivers all the way around the track.

These are the cars that make me think an oval can be fun but you need a party to do it.

Ember,that would be so cool! we have at least four drivers every Saturday for our midget races,and believe me when i say the laughing gets down right painful! taking these little guys around the track like harry did in the video ,but wheel to wheel,causes some of the most thrilling oval racing there is!. and with a build price of about twenty dollars,it don't get much better.

The video cant hide that! I have thousands of laps on those things,and i know you cant drive one like that in a few days unless you got some drivin mo-jo! (that's short for Missouri jalopy) :lol:

I can feel a cunning plan coming on.

The cars would need to be very robust and able to take some tumbles. I can kind of see this as bar type entertainment. At the very least it could be run on Speedway nights at the local track. Hmmmm.... Might have a chat to a publican I know in one of the tiny outskirt towns. I wonder if he'd be interested in trying something different to attract patrons.

Personally, the obligation way the simplicity of driving an oval works for me is with the excitement of being head to head. But that's more about the different ways we all enjoy our slotcars than anything else.

Guys, that video reminds me of one of the big reasons I got hooked on Slot Car Racing back in the mid 60s. I had already run the scratch built cars with the Globe and Pittman motors and had fun doing so, however, at a local track I discovered the fun of racing Monogram Midgets on a small over and under figure eight track. In about 1984 I got reacquainted with the hobby I had grown to love and began to once again race everything from Eurosport down to womps. In 1990 I discovered a group in Lebanon Pa. racing on an oval track owned and operated by Mr. Wendell Veach who raced beautiful little Wing Sprint Cars based on a narrowed to 1" womp chassis, This lead me to also race these display quality cars at Fastlanes in Myerstown and race with an oval group called East Coast Oval Series ran by Mr. Ralph Jones. This past year I have raced oval racing at Dover Pa., Winchester, Va., Front Royal, Va. and Hagerstown, Pa. all who race a form of sprint car racing. You are right, the action and spills of these cars cause great laughter and friendship among the racers and you can never leave an event without the wide smile of a fun night of racing.

Great video and one of my all time favorite types of slot cars. I've got eight or nine Midgets in my collection right now and love 'em all.
