Wednesday night at Fairview Speedway, Becker earned the USAC dirt champ honors by topping Greenawalt via tie-breaker. Becker collected no miscues to Greenawalt's pair of mishaps in the 75 lapper. It was Greenawalt's fourth loss by tie-breaker so far this season. One point behind was Dave Balloch for the third spot as Homer Hiester nipped Dave Kurtz for fourth among the twelve drivers competing.
Greenawalt, aka the Lancaster Tornado, came back with a vengence in the USAC sprint event by grabbing four firsts and a third in segment action. Becker was four markers down for the runner-up position while Balloch snared another third place for the evening. Steve Brenner borrowed Hiester's 5 in the 50 lap feature earning a tie with Bruce Buckwalter for fourth. Brenner, with a clean slate, bested Buckwalter's single wreck for the position. In a program that was abundant with side-by-side racing, the battle between Balloch and Kurtz on the outside lanes was a highlight. They finished one-two, respectively, over Hiester, Chuck Heller, and Becker in that segment.
