The actual 100th anniversary was in 2011. I was just thinking of doing a commemorative race of the anniversary, using vintage cars.
I guess I should have stated that in the beginning :oops:
I am still working out some details for this one, and will post them soon. Seems to be a little interest anyway!

I spent about an hour researching Smokey and his tricks. He really was a legend, eh? Although some of his legends never happened, like the 7/8 scale Chevelle, the rest did. I guess Chad Knaus is a bit on the same page, but the rules are so tight now there isn't any room left between the lines.

They make a 1/43 die cast of the Hurst pod car if someone wanted to do the 3D route. It would be a tough carve as there are so many details outside the smooth surface. I couldn't even find a blueprint for It. It would make a neat slot car though.

It is the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500 Mile Race, as has been pointed out. The non-race years were 1917, 1918, 1942-1945, however.
