I know I'm about 2 week late, but after getting involved with Shotgun Dave's thread about his chassis build, I'm going to join the fun.
I'll start by asking some questions so I'm on track before committing to a design and starting work on a car. This is my first proxy and all responses are welcome.
1) Is there an 'official' way to enter? Let me know what is needed.
2) Does anyone know if the special deals from SCC for this proxy are still available? If so I'll order their wheels, tires, and motor to get started.
3) If I choose the Stock Car wheels from C.B. Design do I still need to have inserts? I've never done inserts before.
4) My first thought is to use a body I have on hand - a Pioneer '68 Mustang fastback (one of the Black & Gold cars) that didn't make it into my Trans Am field. This car doesn't look like anything from last year's entries at the moment, so the question is will it work? Yes, I'll hog out the wheel wells, give it a stocker stance with bumpers and nerf bars, and add appropriate decals.
5) I spent the afternoon looking at all the Showdown stuff Harry and others have posted and think I have a bead on what will work. Thanks for all the info on scratch building a chassis and for the images on what was under last year's cars. All of them were brass, but that isn't specified in the rules. Would it be okay to experiment with a carbon fiber chassis, or with other materials? I've used a range of materials for my custom built dirt modified chassis - plastic, printed circuit board stock, etc. What about a hybrid design that combines materials, but is still scratch built except for the motor bracket? I'll do whatever fits the overall proxy intention.
Your thoughts about these things will help me get started. Thanks.
