A digital proxy?

I have been talking with Burrell and we have made some decisions. First, and most importantly, the world's first digital proxy race is going to happen! We will ask to be put on the calendar for early June. That should give enough time to spread the word and prepare cars. This race will feature Carrera digital GT cars that raced from 2010 until the present. We have several reasons for our decision. First, there are more GT cars to chose from than DTM. If we race GT's this year, we can race DTM's next year. To put everything in summary form:
Box stock 1/32 Carrera digital GT cars - no magnets - cars can (should) be blueprinted - added weight allowed - urethane tires allowed.

We can continue to work out the other details. I am sure there is going to be a lot to learn with this proxy since there really isn't a model to build on. Burrell and I want to have a proxy that takes advantage of the unique features of digital racing. As Tusco Todd mentioned, this proxy doesn't require anyone to have a digital track to tune their cars, so everyone can join. It is designed to attract new racers and keep the costs down by only allowing basic modifications to the cars. So, pass the word.

I will put together a list of cars and post it.

Here is a list of GT cars that would be eligible for racing. This is a list I gathered from the Carrera website. If there are cars that I have missed, just let me know. Burrell and I actually encourage cars that have been painted and decorated to your taste, so livery isn't an issue.

Aston-Martin Vantage, Audi R8 GRS, BMW M3 GT2, BMW Z4 GT3, Corvette C6R, Corvette C7R, Ferrari 599xx, Ferrari 458 Italia, Ford GT, Lamborghini Huracan, Mercedes-Benz SLR GT, Mercedes-Benz AMG GT3, Mercedes-Benz McLaren GT CBR, Nissan GTR, Porsche GT3 RSR, Porsche 918, LaFerrari (just put a number on it).

I've never been involved in a proxy so a question comes to mind. It appears that no money is involved so who pays for the forward shipping? Host?

Money is involved, it just hasn't been mentioned yet. But there are shipping costs involved. I will send everyone a PM explaining the estimated fees and how they will be used. At the end of the race, there will also be an accounting for the funds. This is what we have done in the past, and it seemed to work well. Some races are run where the host pays all the freight for shipping the cars. Neither Burrell nor I think that is fair, so we will spread the costs to everyone. Watch for a PM Friday.

Looking forward to this. Just ordered my first digital car. This will be my first proxy and I think it's a great place to start. I cannot promise too much beyond very basic adjustments, but I am looking forward to this event.

Do you think using a Carrera C6R street version would be okay? It has a tray interior, just not a roll cage and helmeted driver.

I guess sanding off the cups on the chassis posts to allow for float are a no no too.

Hello everyone, sorry to be away. I have had a couple of other projects that have consumed a lot of time. Burrell is even busier than me right now. I am totally gratified to see the response! For your questions: body float is allowed - let me think about drilling out the cups. As I said earlier, I don't want this to be intimidating for a beginner proxy racer. The CR6 is fine, just put a number on it so it is a "racer". It's too bad the backyard privateer racer is gone from the real scene. You may also use Super Glue on your axles to reduce play. (Yeah, that's the ticket, glue your axles in place!) I will have more time now to devote to the Alpha World Digital Proxy.
