Just wanted to drop a quick update guys - we have had some delays due to work schedules and health issues getting drivers together to finish putting the cars through their paces.
I will have the oval racing portion complete the week of the 29th - hopefully with the drag strip portion right after.

Racing of the Modern American Sportsman cars resumed this last Friday and the action did not disappoint!

Racing was performed on every other lane of the eight lane track starting with the inside gutter lane and finishing up with the notably wider sweeping corners of the white lane. Track calls were used to handle deslots and the cars were run two minutes per lane.

After eight minutes of racing, the results shook out as follows:

After the smoke cleared, the field rolled over to the strip for some straight line fun!

All the cars were given a qualifying run in each lane, the average of which, was used to determine where they faced off in the elimination ladder! :D
After the initial run to the finals concluded, the cars that did not progress during the intermediate rounds were run against one another to decide finishing positions for the balance of the field.
(All cars were launched off of a single trigger for both qualifying and racing to eliminate potential issues with driver reaction time)

First off - qualifying!
There were some notable differences in launch characteristics of the cars - ranging from a little loose to hooking so hard that there was day light under the front tires (and in one cars case - guide flag!)

This qualifying set the elimination ladder as follows:



First to the line was TuscoTodd's #71 Mustang and Strangebrew's #11 Corvette!
The coin toss awarded the left lane to the #71 and right lane to #11...



At the light of the green, Strangbrew's Vette exploded off the line, bouncing the front end a number of times as the front end went skyward hard enough to see daylight under the guide flag! :o
TuscoTodd's Mustang hooked hard as well, rocking the body back and planting the tires as it worked to reel in the Vette!
Unfortunately, the slightly out of round wheels noted in the oval racing limited the Vette's pace and the Mustang motored by at half track on the way to the big end.




Next to the line, it was Gameover's #26 Camaro and Arroldn's #53 Charger!
The coin toss awarded the left lane to the #26 and the right to the #53



As the tree went green, it was Arroldn's Charger with the hole shot, leading by roughly two car lengths by 1/4 track!
Gameover's Camaro was charging back by the time the cars hit half track with the gap closing fast...
At the line it was Gameover's Camaro by a car length in one of the closer races of the event!




Next to the line it was TuscoTodd's #3 Mustang verses MnFordguy's #35 Camaro!
The coin toss had the Mustang in the left lane and the Camaro in the right



Off the line, the Camaro launched hard, rolling out first and hooking hard enough to see day light under the front tires! Unfortunately, with the unloading of the front end, the Camaro stuttered a bit allowing the Mustang to catch and pass it, keeping it at bay for the balance of the run (another CLOSE run!)




The final race of Round 1 put Sadco's #46 Challenger at the line in a BYE run situation, with the coin toss placing the car in the left lane for the run.




Not wanting to miss a chance to put the Challenger through the paces, the driver leaned on the #46 hard all the way out the big end advancing cleanly to the next round!

Thanks for hosting, pictures, reporting. Thanks to all who helped run the races both drag and on the oval.

What happened to the #53 in the orange lane on the oval???
Appreciate the 4th place finish.

We were happy to run them guys! They made for a LOT of fun!

Arrold - on the orange lane with your car, it was just a couple deslots from wheelie-ing the guide out of the slot on the exit of the corner. As the lateral loads went up with the faster outer lanes, the bite your car was getting that tends to lift the left front tire and guide was allowing the car to pop the guide out of the slot. The same issue cropped up in the white lane as well, but had a bit less of an impact on lap totals based on where the car transitioning from the orange to white lanes right near the start/finish line (kind of robbing a lap from the orange count and giving it to the white count).
A bit of weight on the left front side might be just the ticket (assuming it doesn't make the car loose in the corner) :D

I will be getting the field shipped out to Gameover on Wednesday for what I believe is the final race at his place.
