IPS 2018 Round 6 Murray Farm Raceway

Hi All,



I've collected the cars from Rossko, and so it's welcome to the wonderful world of racing on Scalextric Sport ( copper taped for your power supply pleasure... ).



Can't say for sure on what days things will happen as there are a lot of other things going on around Chateau bov at the moment - but the intention is certainly to keep the proxy moving around the globe in a timely manner....

Murray Farm Raceway is a 2 lane 58.5 foot Scalextric Sport circuit, topped with copper tape and has 5 x SCC powertaps, so the power is quite consistent throughout the lap. Power come from a 13.8v 25 amp regulated power supply, through Individual adjustable voltage regulators for each lane. Power is also controlled through relays driven by Race Coordinator computer program. Both lanes are the exact same length, but the Red lane has always been the faster lane….



So, the cars have been unpacked and will be checked over prior to having an initial hit out….

bit of shakedown / qualifying session was held tonight. A bit chilly to start with, but the track came around with laps put down...

As such - I expect some cars will perform better in the race than in Q....

But there are some seriously quick cars for their specs in this class. Others may not have the ultimate pace, but are a very consistent race car.....




Can't say exactly when the actual race will be run, but shouldn't be too far away ( I hope... )

Watching the proxy through the home racing web site because the car I wanted to enter wasn't done in time. But I see that the track being just Murray Farm Raceway is Scaletrix track, I am planning on building a track of my own, my question is what type of power source are you using, and how many are you using also, to keep the track powered ?

The power supply is a 30 year old Dick Smith unit. It came as a kit that my cousin assembled for me back in my R/C days. I think it was designed as a CB / Ham radio power supply. It puts out a regulated fixed 13.8 volts @ at a maximum of 25Amps. It has a large transformer inside it, so the unit is quite bulky and heavy - but is very reliable....

Any quality power supply, combined with copper taping your Sport track will make a great improvement to your racing enjoyment IMHO - the SCC power tap kit was probably overkill, but is a great product and gives options for the future...

Hi All,

Round 6 of the 2018 IPS was conducted over the recent past at Murray Farm Raceway in Sydney.

Racing was conducted for 3 minutes on both lanes, lap totals and final lap distance on each lane combined to give a ranking based on distance travelled over the 6 min per car total run time.

Many thanks to all entrants for allowing us to host a round of this proxy. Some of these little jewels are quite incredible in their looks, character and performance on the challenging surface that is MFR’s Sport layout. Past Proxies have shown that the ability to handle the raised curbs of the Sport track system can be a determining factor towards rankings.

Most noticeable was how incredibly smooth and relatively quiet were some of the entries – I have no idea how they do it….. More learnings required…..
There weren’t a lot of changes to the rankings from Qualifying. Some cars had traction issues, some cars seemed to have a bit more power than others, some cars dealt with the curbs better than others….

The Red lane has usually been the faster lane than Green – indeed of the 32 cars, I think only a couple completed a great distance or faster lap on Green compared to Red, so the track and driving were not really a factor I would hope.
